    HALF TERM DASH

We were lucky to secure the half term week here since they closed for the winter on the Saturday we left. We had a large sea view room with balcony overlooking a pool. The complex has a large number of pools with adjacent rooms and loungers plentiful although this might be different in high season. We tried the Italian Restaurant but walked out since the menu was a joke (possibly due to imminent closure). The main buffet was excellent with masks compulsory & they supplied plastic gloves for self service with adequate spacing of tables. There was a huge array of dishes all of good quality & presentation. My only query was that they provided a lovely salad range but strangely no cold meats. We were also agreeably surprised to see brand spirits as part of the AI package (Metaxa brandy & Gordons gin).Other reviewers have mentioned the lovely sandy beach with refreshment facilities and some water sports as part of the package. The hotel is ideal for plane spotters. The bus stop outside the hotel has a regular service to Kartamena & Kos and the timetable is printed in English. The taxi charge into Kartamena is a bit hot at 9 for a 10 minute ride. This is a thoroughly nice spot for a holiday the only shock being the Airport where on return the wait for security is long and the gate area heavily congested despite there only being a couple of flights outbound.

    Fab break

This is a lovely hotel with ample space and a huge pool scene, it was definitely ideal for a "covid break". Staff were great, loved the waiter service in the lobby bar, great touch. Let down was the food; its very samey, not much imagination into the menu & often pretty bland although you can always find something to eat (for me it was pizza!)

Excellent family getaway - August 2020

My family and I visited this hotel in August 2020. This was a very last minute booking for us as our holiday to the States was unfortunately cancelled, and we were very apprehensive about how much wed enjoy a holiday so soon after travel restrictions were lifted with all the new regulations. We joined the Porto Bello Royal Facebook group prior to booking and our reservations we instantly put at ease. We arrived at the hotel around 4pm, as wed taken a taxi from the airport instead of the TUI transfer, we were first to arrive at the hotel, so no queue at the check in desk. The view as you enter the hotel is absolutely beautiful. The lobby area is spotlessly clean and inviting. Lenka checked us in and was very informative, gave us all the information that we needed including details of the new Covid restrictions the hotel had in place. We were taken to our room by golf buggy and within 20 minutes of our arrival at the hotel, were able to enjoy one of 14 swimming pools. We stayed in a sea facing Royal Suite (room 651) which I would highly recommend to anyone travelling with children. The suite has a door separating both bedrooms, allowing our son to have his own space, and his own bathroom. Both bedrooms have access to the balcony. The room was deep cleaned prior to our arrival, and due to current restrictions, was then cleaned every other day, which we were perfectly happy with. Towels and the mini bar were restocked every other day also. Wed seen a fair amount of reviews suggesting its a struggle to get a sun lounger in the morning, or that people are reserving them and disappearing for the day. We personally never had a problem getting a spot. We are early risers and were by the pool for 7am each day, but there were always spaces available until at least 11am each day. The same with queues in the main restaurant, we never experienced queues longer than youd expect in a pre-Covid buffet restaurant. All food was fresh and hot and there was always a great selection. We never struggled to find something we wanted to eat. The team in the buffet restaurant all work so hard to ensure youve got everything you need, and are doing a great job during this time. Dmitris, George, and Karina usually looked after us, and they are all fantastic. There is always a great deal of management present, leading the team at all times which is fantastic to see - Kostas and Connie lead the restaurant team very well and we never had any complaints. We dined at the Italian restaurant on two occasions, each time served by Arthur who is a fantastic character, and we thoroughly enjoyed having him look after us on each visit. The Italian restaurant has a nice selection of salads, and few hot main courses, but the pizza and pasta are the stars of the show of course. The pizza is excellent, in the Italian and the buffet, and the pasta is prepared to order to in front of you. We really enjoyed eating here. We went to the Mediterranean and Greek restaurants once each during our stay (when we went they were only open at lunch time) which we also really enjoyed. The service in each was also great. Both the beach bar and Gelateria offer sandwiches, wraps and biscuits throughout the day which is a really nice addition when you dont fancy a full on meal. We paid multiple visits to Fred and Karina at the beach bar for drinks during the day, and they always made us smile. They are a credit to the team at APBR. Also a special mention to Angela at the pool bar who always serves with a smile. I had a treatment in the spa during our stay which I really enjoyed. The spa was incredibly clean and well presented, I was informed upon arrival of the measures in place to keep myself and the spa therapist safe, and I left my treatment feeling relaxed and refreshed. I highly recommend the spa to anyone looking to unwind, or have some time away from the children..! There is a waterpark next to the hotel which is currently free to use for hotel guests. My son absolutely loved visiting the park each day. I was apprehensive about of first, but upon our first visit was perfectly happy that it was a safe and fun place to be. The lifeguards are all really friendly, and clearly enjoy what they do. Antonio leads a fantastic team at APBR, especially during such uncertain and challenging times. We wish everyone at the hotel all the best, and thank you for such a wonderful family holiday. We dont usually return to the same hotel twice, but we may make an exception for the Porto Bello Royal, or another hotel within the Atlantica group.

    Excellent hotel and staff

We visited in August 2020 and were joined by 2 other families, we all had the BEST time. We couldn't fault anything about the hotel, food or staff, who were all so helpful and friendly. Particular staff of note were Fred and Karina in the beach bar, they were always smiling and great to talk to. George and Kostas in the buffet restaurant, nothing was too much trouble, even when we were the last to leave the restaurant (on too many occasions!). Kostas in particular did everything he could to ensure our dining experiences were fun and hassle free. We loved our holiday but sadly can't go this year as we LOVED it so much that we've booked our wedding there in August 2022!! Hopefully, although doubtful, some of the staff we met last year will be there in 2022. WE can't wait to go back.
