  A great experience

  Travelling through the Hunter Valley and stayed for a couple of nights in Scone. Decided to stay at Portman House as the photos looked great and the reviews were good. It turned out to be an excellent decision. The apartment was as good as the photos (which isn't always the case). It was very clean and had a great design. However, it was the thought and attention to detail that was very impressive, and it was lots of little things that added up to an exceptional experience. The quality throughout showed. Some examples: the toiletries were Sukin, not some small bottles of generic stuff; the mattress was a quality Sleepmaker; extra pillows of different levels of firmness were provided; pillows for the outdoor furniture were in the cupboard; the undercover car parking had sensor lights; the bedside clock had two USB charging ports on the front; none of the walls joined onto other apartments, which eliminated noise from neighbours - all apartments were separated on each side the car space and additionally on one side by the outdoor area; a security gate was present to reduce the chance of problems; the milk in the fridge was a full carton of real milk, not small packages of UHT milk. I could go on with more, but I think you probably have the idea. It is also centrally located, with a great pub just up the road and Coles nearby. In all, a place we would return to in an instant.

  Tesla chargers a huge bonus! Everything else great!

  A great option for Tesla owners. Charger directly outside door. Rooms spotless, modern kitchenette and bathroom and SO GOOD to have electric blankets on the bed! Also appreciate the fact that the owner allowed me to come back and add a bit more charge on the car after check out to make sure I made it home after an unplanned side-trip. Thank you Erin!

  Nicely appointed rooms with good facilities, but its location next to railway line really let's it down.

  Accessing this accommodation is via a shopping centre car park which runs along the railway line. These are probably the two things that let this accommodation down - the location next to the Coles loading bay and the 24-hour trains that use their horns right alongside the location of the accommodation. The rooms themselves are well laid-out, with good facilities and are very comfortable. However, the sound-proofing isn't sufficient to keep the railway and loading dock noise out and a coal train goes past at least every two hours. Everyone in the family spent a lot of time discussing the noise from the railway lines. The curtains on the sliding doors are blackout but one window near the bed is just a Venetian blind which let light in during the night (not great for the light sleepers). Unfortunately, the noise of trains and loading dock far outweighed the quality of the rooms and led to poor quality sleep each night during our stay.

  Tesla charging, and a fantastic play to stay.

  Room was 100% perfect, clean modern spacious and had everything we needed. A delicious continental breakfast was provided, which was a lovely surprise and made the stay even easier. Charged up the Tesla Model 3 overnight so we could hit the road with a full tank the next day. Will be staying here again soon.

  Unusual Accommodation

  This place is a little unusual in that it appears to be a block full of single units that were purpose designed for overnight accommodation. There's no front desk, but the lady who runs the place will give you your access codes by text message. The level of care and detail is evident when you walk into your unit, and the crowning point for us was that they have two units that are equipped with Tesla Destination Chargers; which incidentally they were happy to move bookings around for us when I contacted them with the charger request a couple of days before we arrived. Recommended.
