    Anniversary Trip

Great trip.Nice house and Sophie was a great hostess and made some great food. She also came and picked us from downtown so we didn't have to catch the bus or walk back late that evening. Will definitely be back

    Wonderful stay

We could not have asked for a better hostess or nicer stay. Sophie is so friendly and welcoming and her dog, Chase, is too. We stayed in the Green Room, which is just lovely. We loved the historic house! Everything was very clean and comfortable. The food was so much more than you would expect! Hot breakfast cooked to order, and the waffles are not to be missed! Will definitely recommend to friends and we will stay there again.

    Quick overnight trip

The innkeeper, Sophie, was fantastic, fun, vibrant, and full of conversation. Sophie was prepared for my stay with a wide assortment of GF options. The house was very eclectic and interesting, with each room having a different theme. The rooms were very large and the bed very comfortable. The room had a stand-up fan that was great for noise distraction and a tv if you like that sort of thing. My only reason for taking one star off is because the bathroom was not in the room but across the hall, so if you wake up in the middle of the night to "go" than you have to get dressed in case you run in to other patrons whose bathrooms are also across the hall.

A Charming Host and House (but go there hungry!)

Having just stayed to the Port City Guest House, we thoroughly enjoyed our weekend. Would highly recommend this charming southern Victorian home to anyone visiting Wilmington, NC. Our host, Sophie, greeted us at the door with all of her Southern charm, and invited us into the dining room for a refreshing drink and some snacks; fried chicken, cheese and crackers and fresh fruit. And all of this before dinner! There was another couple checking in so we had a chance to make new friends and compare travels. The guest house is situated on Market Street, about 1.3 miles east of the River District area of Wilmington, where youll find restaurants, bars, breweries, and shopping of all kinds. Its within a 20 minute drive / ride of Wrightsville Beach and Carolina Beach. Parking is available out back, and the house is entered via an electronic lock on the back door so no keys were required. The rooms are furnished in an Antebellum style, with comfortable beds and plenty of drawers and closets to store clothes. AC was strong, and TV and wireless are provided, but we were hardly there, except to sleep. Most bathrooms are not in the rooms, but in the hallway. However, each room has a bathroom assigned, so you have exclusive use for your stay. The fixtures, sink and iron bathtub, were original and were in good condition. It wasnt spa quality, but were clean and had an old school charm. All in all, very comfortable. Our host, Sophie, has been running her house as a bed and breakfast since 2003, and definitely knows how to take care of guests. After our arrival welcome and feeding, she needed to run some errands, so told us to make ourselves at home. We did! The guest areas are sufficiently separated from the living area so that we never felt like we were intruding in someones home, or being kept under surveillance. Breakfast is served from 8-10 am each morning, although she also cooked for a guest who requested breakfasts at 5:30 am. You best better not had a big meal the night before, as eggs, bacon, sausage, waffles, toast, home fries, cottage cheese, peaches, coffee, juice (and perhaps a mimosa!) are on their way to your plate. I mentioned not feeling surveilled.....until breakfast, when we were expected to clean our plates, or come up with the best excuse as to why you couldnt eat another bite! Needless to say, having only two meals a day became the norm. When in Wilmington, NC, definitely visit the Port City Guest House for a comfortable stay with a delightful, charming host.

Best stay and service in Wilmington, NC.

My girlfriend and I spent 3 nights over the Labor Day weekend and could not have had a better experience. Sophie is very attentive and the huge breakfast was unexpected. The house and rooms are immaculate and conveniently located. We will definitely return next year.
