This hotel will nickel and dime you

I stayed here for two nights. What a mistake! First of all, Rodi Garganico is a miss-able town. While the hotel was outside of town by a few hundred meters, it was nothing special. I had booked the hotel with booking.com, agreeing to a rate of 75 euros a night for two people. Upon leaving the hotel, they charged me a total of 173 euros for my stay. I didn't realize this until I got home and emailed the hotel about their mistake. The owner wrote back a somewhat snarky email that it was no error. She said booking.com specifically states the hotel will charge 40 euros a week to use the beach, pool, etc. at the hotel. Too bad the hotel doesn't have a beach and booking.com did not state this 40 euro charge. She explained it was for the air conditioning and pool use. That's expensive air conditioning and for a pool I never swam in. If you advertise that you have air conditioning in your room rate, you shouldn't be able to charge extra for it. The rooms were nothing special. The mattress felt much like an air mattress. The towels in the bathroom didn't look clean upon arrival. At 9AM the maid entered the room without knocking. She asked when she could come back and clean and when told to come back at noon, she made a face as though we were crazy. She apparently wanted to get down to the beach and finish her job. We are the customers afterall. The maid shouldn't make us feel bad about not wanting to leave our room right at her disposal. The second hidden charge came upon leaving. Just missing breakfast, we asked for two cappuccinos to take on the road for we did have to check out so early. The woman made up awful cappuccinos and then proceeded to charge 3 euros for them, cappuccinos that should be free as breakfast was included in the room rate. Also check in is at a very late time. You also have to check out by 10AM so you really do not stay a full 2 nights, but you pay for it. Overall not worth the ridiculous price and I would never stay here again.

If you wish to relax and unwind, this is the right place to go to. You can do as much or as little as you like.

We have recently spent a week at the Hotel Poggio Degli Ulivi with two young teenagers. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, and quiet at night ensuring the guests can have an undisturbed sleep. The restaurant offers simple but tasty meals, as it is the tradition in this area of Italy, with some local dishes. The service was attentive and quick. On the days we went on excursions we were given a packed lunch which included two panini, fresh fruit and a bottle of water. We used the tennis and football courts facilities nearby (just 0.5 Km away, though it is better to go by car than walking due to the winding road and a few stray dogs we encountered when we first tried to walk there), staff at reception will be happy to book in advance on your behalf, ideally the day before. We used the mini shuttle bus to the beach (approx 4 Km away), we found the service very convenient and flexible (making extra runs between the timetable times, if demand was in excess of the 8-9 available seats). We always ended the day by the swimming pool, a very relaxing area, except for Wednesday afternoons when swimming lessons take place for about 1-1.5 hours. On our last day we drove to the Foresta Umbra and then to Monte Sant'Angelo, recommended by the hotel's owners. It was well worth a visit, beautiful scenery on the way, a very well preserved Norman castle and interesting cathedral to visit, we also stopped at a go-karting track on our way back. Overall, we very much enjoyed our time at Hotel Poggio degli ulivi, an ideal base to explore the whole beautiful Gargano area. We would certainly go back again.

    Pretty good after all.

We were a bit afraid before leaving after reading some negative reviews and almost decided to cancel the hotel. In the end it turned out that this place was quite good. Nice garde en play garden for the child. Nice swimming pool. Could only swim once due to the weather - but that is not the hotel's fault of course. Service during Breakfast is a bit less and stops a bit too early for our exhausted child. Rodi Graganico is not so touristy but because of that has preserved more of its true Italian charm. If you look well you'll find a couple of good restaurants near the town square or at the other end near the local train station.
