Good hotel, but communication is impossibleThis hotel is very well located. The Kirova Street (Prospect) is a very pleasant broadwalk, with various cafes, bars and shops. The communication with the hotel employees is impossible, no one speaks anything in English. Thanks Google Translator! Breakfast is included, and is decent. Cable TV only shows Russian programs and movies. WIFI Internet is provided for free, with reasonable speed. This hotel is a good option, I recommend!

Good hotel for business trip. Not easy to find the hotel in first time. The "Pioneer" cinema theater is placing between Kirova Street (Prospect) and the hotel and covering it. Best location in the heart of Saratov on pedestrian street. Close to the Lipki park and the ancient conservatory of Saratov. Free mini bar with good Kuban red and white wines.

Lost in translationAre you serious? A four star hotel for foreign travelers and no staff able to speak a single word of English?? We got there around 9 pm, we were starving and in need of a nice restaurant: we were not able to communicate at all with the receptionist and we had to venture out looking for a place to eat. In addition, I have rarely met in my career of seasoned traveler a reception staff as little friendly as at Pioneer's. Last but not least, this is supposed to be a non smoking hotel... Well good luck with that! The corridors stunk of smoke 24/7! The reasons why I'm giving it three dots instead of one or two is because the location is just in the heart of the city (although getting there by car is another story....), the room was spacious, clean and comfortable and the serving staff in the breakfast room would smile at us in the morning!

horrible approach, odd entrance, reasonable sleepBeware: this is not really a hotel, just a few floors occupied in a larger building. This means no lobby, no porters, even no hotel sign at the entrance. So, the entrance... No, lets start from approach. Local drivers barely know the way to this centrally located hotel, so my advice is to avoid approaching it at dark, as we did. We were riding at 9 pm and the last 300 m a very narrow road ran through a completely deprived area of horrible ruins. Isn't this a rookery? Preferred not to ask, but my feeling was that we were not approaching a hotel but going to be robbed. After we parked at some lightless place we had to guess where to walk. The nearest entrance led to a medical center but if you walk through the archway (remember- no signs) you can see... - no, not the hotel but a banner of 10 ft height signing the adults shop! Hotel entrance is here to the left (again, not signed). As there is no lobby in the hotel, you have to go to the 6th (or 5th?) floor for the reception desk. We booked a suite ($125 per night) but it turned to be two separate rooms linked by a corridor, each having own bath facilities (one with a hot tub and another with just a shower). Hotel staff was very friendly and welcoming but as there were 3 doors locked to the room (1 to the corridor and 2 to the rooms) reception failed to provide us with the proper keys and we spent some 15 minutes until they were found. The rooms are far generous in space and clean. The furniture is new, beds and pillows comfry, so we were pleased to relax there with 2 complimentary bottles of the local craft beer to bolster. The breakfast was on the same floor with the reception - very basic, but acceptable. Nice feature was that the hotel gives you a free lift to the airport which we enjoyed right away. Overall, cant recommend this odd place but assume that if we walked to the building from the other side and during the day lights, the impression might be different.
