  Disappointing

  After staying at the Pioland 5 years ago (2010), we thought we would stay again being a convenient location. Big mistake! We booked 2 nights and we were moved after first night - even though we booked some time ago. We were then moved to another 'family room' which we wanted as there were 2 adults and a baby under 1 years old. The room seemed ok at first - bigger than the first room we stayed in, but then once we settled my little girl started to chew on something - only to find she had a ball of dust in her hands. We found the whole of the kettle, plates and TV area as well as the bathroom edges were covered in dust. The room had not been cleaned properly - the mattresses we pulled from the cupboard also had various hair attached. To say we were disappointed is an understatement especially when the hotel is quite expensive in comparison to other hotels in the area. I would not recommend this hotel or will I be returning!

  Pretty good at 3 minutes from the station

  This was a pretty good experience. The hotel is at about 3 minutes walk from the station, Omiya JR main exit. There are shops all around the area so taking food to brng back to the room is fairly simple.The rooms are all tatami, the bamboo floor used in the japanese traditional houses. It is KIND OF clean. Do not expect much. Tatami cannot be washed, so you basically get what other people's feet left behind. If you think about it, it is quite gross, but this is how it works. Th room itself is warm and there is plenty of covers. The toilet is small... and when i say small... i really mean it. VERY SMALL. When you are in, you feel like the toilet is already too crowded. This is how small it is. Breakfast... there was quite a lot of choice. Much more than any other place I've been too. The hotel is quite affordable, so you might wanna give it shot.

  Near Omiya Station

  I stayed here for 2 nights for business purpose. The hotel is 5 minutes walk to the Omiya station, with many food outlets and convenient marts around. The hotel staff is alright. The room is compact. There are vending machines on 5th floor. Not suitable for travellers with baby. The only area for improvement is the room cleanliness. Room should be dust free kept.

  Fine for What it Is

  Stayed at this property on our way up to Tohoku. Location is close to the East North exit of Omiya Station just a 4-minute walk. Room was pretty much a standard business-type hotel room in Japan: quite small, clean and functional. For people used to Marriott and Hilton, this room may be too small for your comfort. On the other hand, it was quiet and clean. Amenities include toiletries such as a razor, shower cap, toothbrush, plastic hair brush, a tiny refrigerator and tea set, etc. What minimal service we had was efficient, polite and friendly. We did not purchase the breakfast, since we had a very early train. There is a Lawsons convenience store around the corner from m the hotel, so we purchased food for the train ride up to Akita and beyond. Since Omiya is a bullet train hub, this is a very convenient place to stay. Just be forewarned that like thousands of small hotels in Japan, the standard room size is very small. Omiya is one of the cities combined into what is now called Saitama.

  Quality Has Deteriorated Since My Last Stay

  I wrote a glowing review after my last stay in March 2014. Sadly, conditions have deteriorated at Pioland over the last five years. But first, the positive: great location, friendly and helpful staff, wonderful and varied breakfast, and no smell of smoke on my non-smoking floor. Going in, I knew the rooms were minuscule so I booked a Twin Room/Single Use as opposed to my previous Double (actually, the Double rooms seems a little more spacious because the one bed takes up less space in a similarly sized room). In all fairness, Pioland is a typical business hotel and probably not designed to accommodate longer stays such as mine of eight nights, offering pretty much no storage space. I remembered the bathroom being tiny, but this time it felt unbearable. There's a huge step up into the phone booth bathroom (one foot or more?) and maybe my knees were better five years ago, but I don't recall the step being so hard on them. The furniture is so old and in such poor condition that it's laughable. While my prior room had a great modern ac unit, the ac in this room was as decrepit as the furniture. It cooled the room effectively, but was impossible to regulate. Now the worst: for the most part, the room was not clean (though bed linens and threadbare towels were). The rooms need a good power washing. Daily housekeeping seemed ok but somehow, over time, things became grimy. The switches and switch plates, and bathroom fixtures and faucets were quite dirty--in fact, caked with grime. I tried to do a little cleaning on my own, but couldn't make a dent. When I changed the toilet paper roll, I noticed caked dirt on the holder. The carpeting was stained and threadbare as well. All in all, the lack of cleanliness was a huge negative. I would not recommend, nor, would I stay in this hotel until the rooms are completely renovated, At $125 USD/night (including breakfast) I did not get good value. But there is hope--I was shown one of the newly renovated rooms--there are five of them, I believe. It was quite nice and modern. Every room must follow suit. Until then, as much as I hate to say it, avoid Pioland,
