Wonderful waterfront deck overlooking Swan River

This apartment hotel is a gem in North Freo. The rooms are small but set up in such a way to maximize space. We used the kitchenette every day and enjoyed our meals on our private balcony with the best view imaginable. The service was excellent, the staff friendly and the laundry room was great to have on site. staff were friendly and it was handy to have laundry on site.

    Absolutely amazing!!!

My partner and I stayed at Pier 21 for 4 months over summer and would highly recommend to everyone. Rooms have the absolute best view over the Swan River (we commonly saw dolphins swimming about from our balcony). Rooms are very spacious, clean and tidy. Fantastic pool and bbq area overlooking the river. All staff were amazing! Super friendly and happy and fixed any little thing straight away. Shout out to Garry, the hotel manager, who goes out of his way to ensure every guest has an amazing time. Pier 21 is situated in a superb location in North Fremantle. Bars, restaurants and cafes are within walking distance. It is a 30 minute walk or $6 Uber into Fremantle city or the beach. There is a walking track along the river out front and a large grassed oval next door.

Felt very unwelcome and poorly treated

I have given this review a slightly higher rating than I feel it deserves because the location and view from our balcony/front bedroom was stupendous. Upon arrival we were astonished at how small the sitting area was (a sofa almost up against the TV) and also the second bedroom; in fact I truly do not believe it can be called a second double bedroom. The bed was shoe horned up against the wall on one side and the minuscule wardrobe on the other. There was no provision for a bedside table or lamp on either side (obviously because there was no room). No power points at all in the room and a window with a blind which could never be opened unless you wanted to be seen by those walking along the internal corridor. When I called to suggest this was not a two double bedroom apartment we were offered a second room (with inferior views) for the price of $180 extra a night. As we had booked for 5 nights paying almost £1000 for the privilege we were clearly not inclined to fork out more. We elected to make the most of a bad room and moved the bed around, asked for some furniture, lamps and an extension lead to try and make a bedroom suitable for a couple in mid 60s (were we supposed to climb over each other to get in and out of bed in the night for the loo)? Two days running our apartment was not serviced, we ran out of loo rolls (this was during the Coronavirus madness but everywhere else we visited seemed capable of having enough stocks). Due to our flights being changed, again due to the Corona Virus we asked for late check out on our final day but were told we would have to pay for an extra day, this despite the hotel being virtually empty - we never saw more than 2 or 3 people at breakfast each day, no one at the pool and no one moving around the grounds. The ONLY bright spark, apart from the view, were the wonderful service staff both in the breakfast room and also those who came to try and redress the issues with such sub standard accommodation. Oh and also the cupboard second bedroom was also stifling hot with no passage of air so we managed to source a fan from the helpful staff which alleviated the problem a little. I would never return here, or recommend it; this might be okay for a couple or someone with a child but not for 2 couples who would like rooms of roughly similar standards. It left us feeling very unhappy and the worst experience in our 7 week holiday around USA and Australia. On one last note, when we moved the bed it was absolutely filthy both around the edges and underneath

    Great view but small.

Two adults and two children for three nights. Booked a two bedroom apartment and had two queen rooms so the kids shared. The view from the balcony is beautiful over the marina looking at all the boats. The room was very clean and tidy and all staff we met were friendly. Parking is included and plenty of it was undercover. However, there really is no space. For four people with a suitcase each there was nowhere to put anything. Cupboards in both rooms were small and no hooks/rails for towels or surface space in the bathroom. Nice for a couple but probably not suitable for a family.

    Hotel is failing

My last review in 2014 was glowing ... now, not so much. I've stayed here many times since and I'm sad to say, even with it's beautiful location, the hotel is failing structurally and with service. The rooms are definitely showing their age with jagged carpet, door knobs that don't work, curtains and broken blinds, and fixtures broken off that have not been fixed. My last stay was frustrating in regards to parking. Parking is precious at this hotel. After being out for the day, I came back at 3pm to find the carpark absolutely full. Knowing this was strange, I asked the clerk if their was a party or wedding happening for the car park to be full. She said there was a wedding happening and wedding guests had filled the parking area. I told her, as far as hotel policy, only one car per hotel guest was allowed. She offered for me, a paying hotel guest, to park on the road until a space was vacant. Street parking was nonexistent since there was a cricket game going on next to the hotel, so parking was being used by players and spectators. I have been to other hotels where parking is cherished and they give guests cards to place on the dash of their car. Any car without a card gets towed from the property. When you pay good money to stay at a hotel, the last thing you want to do is park in the street or fight for a spot. The parking issue was the last straw for this customer, who once frequented Pier 21 a lot. Refurb the place and re-think your parking policy, and I might be back.
