Homely stay with friendly staffDecent and clean hotel with basic room facilities at a money for value room rate. The staff are very friendly and made guests feel like home. Hotel location is near to shops (eg seven eleven convenience store) and market place. Bicycles are also available for use.

An epic joirneyIt should be mandatory to go to this place and meet the hill tribes. The hotel is really working hard with the locals to bring a better standard of life. Of course the hotel is basic but the staff are some of the nicest I have ever met. The food is superb and even though they only have soft drinks and beer they are happy for you to BYO from nearby 7/11. Our first night they had a large party and invited us to join them for traditional street food and dancing. The next day we had a 45 minute drive to the waterfall this is on the back of a 4x4 followed by a 2 hour trek. This is not for the unfit as is uphill on unsteady ground in hot temperatures but definitely worth doing. Lunch is served in their home stay which I am sure would be a lovely experience as an overnight place. Then you pick and prepare tea and watch and help with basketmaking. It is amazing how simplistic the life is and the story behind it would make a great film. Definitely do this

All part of the experienceWe stayed at the Phumanee as part of our tour of Northern Thailand, and as the previous reviewer has said, although basic, the people are lovely and do their best to make your stay a good one. We had a room on the third floor which had a lovely balcony. There was a large fridge, kettle and tea/ coffee. I suppose what let the room down was the bathroom - only cold water for the sink and a very weak shower (this was hot though). The toilet seat lid was broken so my husband fixed it. Lighting was poor also and it was very hard to see what you were doing at night time. Food was superb although not a lot of choice at breakfast. The visit to the Lahu hill tribe was a fantastic experience and exactly as the review before stated - a definite must do. If you dont want to do the trek, take the 4WD trip - thats another experience in itself!

Are You KiddingThe advertisements and pictures are, at best, misleading in every manner possible. No one seems to care and it apparently survives on representation that it is outgrowth of a community in the hills. It may have started that way but the folks "working" in hotel were not from a hill community. There is no room accessible without climbing badly constructed steps. The room that is only one flight up was prison cell like in every regard. Badly poured concrete floor with no floor covering, very poor to nonexistent lighting, unsleepable bed. Window coverings that appeared to be worn sheets. Frayed and not very clean limited towels. Any favorable review given this establishment must be viewed as suspicious. Do not use this facility. Do not.

Friendly and helpful staffI'm currently doing a road trip in Chiang Mai Province specifically to search for minority villages along the border with Myanmar. After finding this property on-line I decided to stay here to learn more about the homestay they operate in the Red Lahu village up on Doi Pu Muen. Unfortunately, do to COVID-19, the homestay is not operating now. I did take a drive up into the mountains in the general area of the village and I am very excited to return as I believe this will be a fantastic opportunity to experience an authentic traditional Lahu village. So, this review is only for the hotel: The staff is extremely friendly and kind. The gal that runs the show is very helpful and under normal circumstances can organize, tours, transportation, and the above-mentioned homestay. While the hotel itself does have some Lahu inspired decorations and charm, it is in fact a fairly typical, somewhat dated, Thai style budget hotel. The normal rate for a standard room with breakfast is 500 THB, so seasoned travelers should know what to expect. Normally I would give this type of property three out of five dots on the TripAdvisor scale, but I increased it by one dot because of the staff. I will probably return to Fang when the homestay re-opens and do a review of that as well. Looking forward to my return :)
