    Excellent place and atmosphere

We have spent just a night at Coldimolino, but we will never forget about it. Everything was perfect, the location is amazing, there is a wonderful view and the place is very quiet. The atmosphere is wonderful, perfect for romantic stays. We also took advantage of the swimming pool, which was really nice. There are also tennis courts in loco for those who might be interested. The breakfast was excellent, high quality food and service. Also, the people were very friendly and professional, the atmosphere just great. Definitely one of our best choices.

    Short break Gubbio

We have rented a 2 bedroom appartment here for a stay of 4 days. Very friendly reception, nice surrounding and great view over the hills. Had a great breakfast. Appartment was good but very basic. For a short stay a perfect place to be....quiet but in 15 minutes in Gubbio center...

A lovely peaceful and easy to get to location for a good price.

We stayed here for 5 nights in May for a trip of many purposes. First we were celebrating my sister's 30th birthday, second we were visiting my Italian family who live in Gubbio and finally we came to see the Ceri festival (15th May). We were a group of 3 couples and when we arrived we were each shown to an apartment comprising of a kitchenette/diner/living space a double bedroom and a bathroom (no bath, only a shower but this is fine for us). The sofa could be converted to a sofa bed, there was a decent sized fridge, a double ring electric hob, oven, cooking and dining Ware for 4 people and a sink. (no washing up stuff provided). We were all paying a rate of 90/night using booking.com which we thought was excellent value for not only such a nice well kept place, but considering the popularity of the ceri festival and it's proximity to Gubbio town centre (about 15/20 minutes in the car and very easy roads through Cipoletto). The grounds were beautiful. Jasmine, rose and rosemary bushes line the road and car park and lawn edges and surround the pool area. All of the lawns are well maintained which is very difficult in Italy and provides the lush green environment. It was a cool May when we visited but we never were very cold but then again we never sat out for long in skimpy outfits. Its not so high in the hills to be a major factor but having something a bit more covered up for the evenings should you wish to sit out isn't a bad idea. Also, at other times of the year, I am unsure of what the midges situation will be. However, I did come here for my cousin's wedding in August and had no problems with temperature or midges and it was blooming gorgeous! The restaurant is excellent both for taste, quality, portions and value. The traditional tasting menu which comprises of a meat and cheese plaster typical to the region (brustingi and crescia bread) followed by a truffle lasagnette, meat skewers (spiedini) and a gorgeous cake and crème brulee cost us 28/head (before wine and bottled water). As a comparison, a distinctly average similar menu in picchio verde in Gubbio cost us 28/head and the wine was awful and we had to pay a cover/service charge on top. Between 6 of us we had 3 bottles of wine (not all house and please don't judge us!) and several bottles of mineral water "frizzante". The quality and set up was more of a fine dining experience and we thoroughly enjoyed it! And no cover charge or tip Required! The benefit this night was that noone needed to drive so we could all enjoy a drink and we weren't rushed around either. The setting us beautiful too so it really was a win-win situation. The restaurant was quiet, but the day we went, the whole resort was, but don't let that be a judge of anything! On the point of food, our breakfast was included and was taken in a small specifically set up building just past reception on most days but there was another room in reception on the day of the festival when the hotel was busier. Typically it consisted of a choice of cases and crostata (pie/tart... Fruit or Nutella) freshly baked mini pastries such as Danish, croissants, pain au chocolate etc. Also available, w couple of cereals; one sugary like coco pops the other healthier like alpen style muesli. Fresh fruit available every day (never saw bananas though!) flavoured yoghurt pots and a bowl of natural plain yoghurt, milk etc. Fresh fruit juices (although always a mixed juice). Fresh slices of prosciutto crudo (cured but bit cooked Italian style ham), brie or camembert, and small petits pain available for bread. (this was something I found a bit disappointing as fresh Italian bread is delightful in the morning with some butter and jam). There was a self service bean to cup coffee machine which produced a perfectly decent cup of coffee and there were tea making facilities too. A selection if gluten free and normal biscuits were available and if course a selection of jams. Water was bottled only, sparkling(frizzante) or still. In terms of other good to know bits. WiFi in most of the public areas was available but due to the nature of the building construction, it could be really hit or miss. For example, one part of the room you'd gave full signal strength, and 2 metres away you'd lose it completely. Mine seemed to work best outside of my apartment! But then again I was only using it to communicate with my Italian family who use what'sapp to make plans so this was OK. Internet signal and generic reception on my phone was intermittent and Internet barely usable but my husband found it fine (we're on the same network but haven't different makes of phone). However it wasn't a problem for making calls or sending sms messages. Be aware that there is a 1.50 tourist tax per person per day and this will be at any hotel although the rate may be different. Factor this in as extra. It must be paid in cash. Take some simple games like a deck of cards or similar, buy some beer or wine and snacks in one of the supermarkets in Gubbio and have a nice night up at the coldimolino in your apartment and don't spend loads of money. We had a few good nights back at the hotel after dinner in Gubbio playing cheat and other games. However be aware that at certain times, the shops cannot sell alcohol, the evening of the 14th May through to the morning of the 16th May of every year is an example. The town's market is open on Tuesdays. You must have a car really to get to the Coldimolino because it is out of town and as the name suggests, in the country! The road leading up to it is signposted sufficiently. The road surface leading upto it is average to poor and partly a gravel/dirt track. Be aware that local pets may not move off the road readily (like dogs) so drive carefully. There is parking just outside the complex but you can drive your car right outside the apartments etc so you can save humping and dumping your luggage for a few hundred metres if you wish. Toiletries consist of two bottles of a nice olive oil extract based shower gel and shower caps. Towel bale is one large but a little bit thin bath sheet and 2 Italian style (linen) towels. Toilet paper economic style but good (weird comment to make I know but if you go you'll understand!) Apartment cleaned daily by staff and bed made up. TV un bedroom, channel 11 is the local TV channel. Why not 5*? Because the pool wasn't clean enough to take a dip. I appreciate they may think clients think it's too cold in May but as British people, the day we declared pool day, we hoped to swim but there were too many "creatures" in it to make me not want to! This pool was sparkling clean when we visited in August. The walls between apartments weren't adequately sound proofed. Whereas we weren't disturbed at any point by next door we could hear them washing up and chatting in their living space. Also, the people in the apartment above made a lot of noise on the mornings and made dust fall on the floor in our bedroom! I don't know if they were just noisy, heavy footed clients or that is just how the structures made it seem! Also, towels weren't changed for the duration of our stay. I would normally expect them to be changed once every 3 days in a hotel. Other than those minor points (and that is nit picking) this is an excellent good value place to stay in Umbria! It is also super excellent for weddings... The rood I had in August not only was plentiful but out of this world excellent and I am very critical normally about places to eat. This really hits the mark and exceeds it's reputation. Food absolutely excellent.

    Disappointing

When we reserved an apartment at Coldimolino Country House, we noticed there were only very few reviews online, or outdated reviews. This should already have rung a bell... We booked a three-bedroom apartment for 9 days with Neckermann/Thomas Cook. We really needed a separate living room, as I needed to work during the holidays early in the morning every day (as from 6 oclock) and as my husband stays up late at night. And of course we also like to have one bedroom for the parents, and one bedroom for the children (8 and 11). When we arrived at the apartment, we noticed bedroom 2 only had a bed of 120 cm, which was way too small for our two children, and the second child had to sleep in the living room (the sofabed by the way took all the space in the living room when folded open). Apparently this was a mistake we made by booking this type of 3 bedroom apartment. We asked for a solution, explaining we really needed to be able to work in the mornings and evenings, but the person from the hotel said it was not possible because the hotel/apartments were fully booked. We were very disappointed by the reaction of the hotel. They did not want to help us in any way, also after asking, and this was repeated at least 10 times during our stay: it is your mistake you booked the wrong room. We even heard the sentence: you dont need to stay here, you can go elsewhere. I am not a specialist in customer relationship management, but I am definitely sure this is not good practice. We asked to place an extra bed in the childrens bedroom, we would even have been happy with a mattress on the floor, remove the cupboard if this hinders the placement of an extra bed/mattress... etc. We also called Neckermann/Thomas Cook for a solution. They said the management of the hotel would definitely contact us the next day for a solution. To our surprise, they NEVER contacted us again. They did not even ask if everything was ok during the 8 days we stayed there, even when we asked for help with other stuff such as the laundry or wifi password (they did not give it automatically by themselves). We were just ignored. Not very professional... So we went to a Decathlon at 50 min drive, we bought an inflatable mattress, and our daughter camped on the floor the whole vacation. Definitely not our idea of a 4 stars apartment, but at least we could enjoy our holidays. Not thanks to the hotel and the travel agency of course. We now wonder what would be the added value to book through a travel agency? We would get the same customer service by booking ourselves, which is none. Of course, and this was repeated endlessly, this is your fault, you booked the wrong apartment. But it costs really little effort to try to find a solution for your customer, or to ask if everything is ok now. When the hotel reception asked me at the end of our stay when checking out (!) if everything was ok, I said no. That I regretted the hotel never contacted us back to find a solution. Of course they said: its your fault you booked this room. When I tried to explain that I knew that by now: that its not about the room, but about the customer service, that I found it a pity they never contacted me to discuss a solution, as this was also what Neckermann/Thomas Cook promised they would do, they just repeated: its your fault you booked this room. Maybe the bad English, that they cannot understand the difference, maybe the bad training in customer relationship management, maybe bad instructions... Of course, it was all our mistake, but be aware not to make any mistakes when you book the apartments/hotel! As I hope no one else will ever make the same mistake as us, I still owe you more information on the apartments. The domain of the apartments/hotel is really nice, great views, it is spacious and looks well maintained. It is well located close to Gubbio, and at approximately 50 min of a couple of nice Umbrian cities. We really loved to visit the neighbouring cities and villages. About the apartment, we found the parents bed of good size, but the mattress had a broken iron sticking out (not out of the fabric, but there was definitely something broken) which was painful when you are sleeping on it. Moreover, there was no mattress protection beneath the regular sheet, which I find really not hygienic. There is nothing that can be cleaned from the previous guests and the sheets (old style) get loose very quickly. And when this happens, you are touching the dirt of hundreds of previous guests... The childrens bed of 120 cm did have a mattress protection, but that bed and mattress was very bad. I dont think an adult or a young adult could sleep on it. The childrens bedroom by the way could easily host a bunk bed, or two box springs of 80 cm if they would get rid of the huge closet, but I guess they prefer to keep the inconvenient and bad furniture. The wifi is free but extremely slow. The swimming pool is of a good size and can be very relaxing during the week. Some small remarks: there was a wasps nest at one of the entrance ladders (at one of the feet of the ladder in the tiles outside the water). You could see the wasps crawling inside and outside. And somehow this left a lot of dead wasps in the water and made it dangerous to use that ladder (I should mention there was one other ladder we could use). Luckily, we did not get any accidents with the wasps, and if we would have, the hotel management would probably have told us it was our mistake to use the wrong ladder, so it is good we did not mention anything. I saw one of the guests taking the cleaning net of the swimming pool trying to clean the pool by himself, which is also a good example on how the hotel manages to train their guests. Our stay ended with a climax, a wedding on the premises. During the day, when I wanted to use early in the morning some of the shadow below a parasol, which apparently was meant for the tables of the wedding, I was told to move, I guess, but I could not understand the Italian. Previous comments mention it already in the reviews, but please believe how bad it was: you could not sleep during the night. It was as if the wedding was happening in your bedroom. The day after, the swimming pool was crowded (x4 the normal crowd during the week) and very noisy, so bad that we left the hotel one day earlier (a first in our history of holidays).

    Will not come back!

The place an location are really nice and the staff is kind. However the furnitures dont fit with the countryside style, the rooms need of maintenance in the bathroom, the frigobar was closed with tape (!!), WiFi works badly, the overall cleanses is not at resort standard, the swimming pool is not clean, there is no attention on details in the commons areas which make it not comfortable and without charme. Its a pity because this place could be amazing but leaves you unsatisfied and dont match expectations.
