Better hotels in Cape MayThe staff could learn a thing or two about hospitality! when we tried to check in we were told that there was no where to change or use the restroom due to the Covid law in New Jersey, that is absolutely not true. neighboring hotels had facilities for people checking in early to change and use the restroom. Also you could not access your room until 3 pm, again stating a COVID rule, not true!! when I came to the office at 2:57 and said I had not received a text I was told it was not 3 PM ! Rooms were clean and housekeeping staff brought clean towels several times. No pool towels provided. I would not recommend this hotel. The top reason is the Service charge for using a credit card, its unheard of in 2020!!! I wasnt aware of the fee when I left the deposit only when I received the written confirmation two days later. We had friends staying at other hotels and they were not charged a service fee.

Solid place to stay in Cape MayWe stayed for 3 nights in August and were happy with our choice to stay at the Periwinkle. This hotel is located towards the northern part of the main strip of Cape May. We were going to stay at the Ocean Club Hotel right next door which was $2800 for 3 nights, the Periwinkle was a little over $1200. No complaints about the room, the bathroom was updated, although a little small. There is access to the beach directly across from the hotel. Pool and courtyard right in the middle of the hotel. Great value hotel, would stay again.

Periwinkle - Left Us Feeling a Little BlueWe recently stayed at the Periwinkle and were disappointed by several issues. First, when we made the reservation, we did so, not surprisingly, by credit card. A subsequently received email from the Periwinkle had attached to it a reservation confirmation which disclosed for the first time that they assessed a 3% so-called convenience fee. We have traveled extensively, within and outside our country, and have never seen that much less being told after the fact. While the hotel property is reasonably well maintained, we have twice experienced their only elevator being out of service, the first time for several days. Room decor is minimalistic and mattresses, at least in our room, were spongy and lacking meaningful lumbar support. Simply put, a makeover is long overdue. By definition, hotels are at the core of the hospitality industry. At checkout, one would expect to be asked about our stay and whether we enjoyed ourselves. Not so when we returned our two keys which resulted in the clerk simply saying, "You're all set". Cape May is a wonderful destination with many options for where to stay. When we next visit over the Columbus Day weekend, we will be staying elsewhere.

Wonderful stay!Stayed 4 nights at beginning of September 2020 and had a wonderful time in great accommodations. Room and bathroom was updated and very clean. Loved the dry kitchen area and it was very clean. Lovely view from 2nd floor balcony. Pool was large and clean and lawn area was easy to get a chair. They gave the option at check-in for full housekeeping or just to deliver towels to the room. We opted for towels only and were happy with this service. Great location for proximity to the beach, just across the street. It was a little North of the "main action" at Washington Mall but still within a healthy walk, maybe 20ish minutes. We went to Cape May 3 years ago and stayed at Congress Hall and were very happy there as well, however I would return to Periwinkle on any future trips in a heartbeat. Room - C.H. does have king bed options but we were ok with the 2 queens at Periwinkle. Loved the dry kitchen at P., C.H. just had mini fridge. Beach view was very similar from both 2nd floor balconies. Pool at P. is a little bigger. C.H. location is a little more convenient. We'll be going back to Periwinkle! The difference in money is worth a little bit of a walk to us when everything else was the same or better. Thank you Periwinkle for a wonderful vacation!

2.5 stars in my opinionWe stayed four nights. In many respects, we were satisfied. While the hotel is old and has metal room keys, we were very satisfied with the room furnishings. The hotels grounds are very nice and the hotel pool is heated. The hotels location is excellent. However, two-thirds of the rooms are on the second and third floors. We learned the hard way that they only have one elevator and there is no backup or service elevator. For one afternoon, evening and night, the elevator was out of service. We had to walk up and down two flights of stairs several times, and it was difficult and painful for my wife. If you want to avoid the risk, require a room on the ground floor or stay elsewhere. The hotel has no bathroom in the lobby area. We arrived before the 300 pm check-in time and had to wait, which was fine. However, we had to go elsewhere to find a toilet. I have traveled extensively and I have NEVER encountered this issue in a hotel before! The above two issues and the age of the property are why I rate the hotel 2.5 stars.
