Disappointed with roomThe hotel on arrival looked great, driveway, parking, outside, reception area, bar. However the greatness stops at that point. The first room we were put in smelt of old fat or cooking oil, really overwhelming. Then we were put into another room, this room was small, one small window which looked onto a blank wall which was dirty and stained. See photos On talking to reception about the whole thing we spoke with friendly staff and management. The first room we were told is over looking a kitchen and thats reason for smell. Basically this what they offer with rooms, unlike website photos, room size looks bigger and looks more better and fancy but in real life not so fancy We cut our stay short for the price we paid we could find a better cost effective premier inn, which we find clean and rooms are big and you know what your getting

Fantastic overnight stay at a beautiful, relaxing hotel with incredible staff!December 15th was my birthday; as a treat I decided to book a nights stay here with my partner. Wow! Within the grandeur of this old Georgian building was such opulence, cosiness and decadence that I would imagine will be hard to find anywhere else! On arrival we checked in at reception, the receptionist was kind and informative, truly making us feel welcome. The room was easy to locate, we booked a deluxe double and it was so worth it! Recently refurbished, (much like the rest of the hotel), it was fantastic, all in style with the beautiful building its situated in. Everything was incredible, from amazing wifi, comfy beds, smart TV, brilliant lighting, beautiful bathroom with amazing shower, to even the small things like a small motion detecting light near the toilet to avoid waking your partner or touch screen lightswitches. Everything was incredibly well thought out and made you feel like a V.I.P. well done to the people who brought this all together! An extra nice touch was balloons on the bed in recognition of my birthday. Having spent considerable time exploring and playing around with everything in the room, we decided it was time to get a drink at the Copper bar, once again everything in the lounge area was well thought out, comfy and in keeping with the original house and its heritage. Of course (for me anyway) my attention was immediately taken to their impressive collection of gins, around 160 I believe! I was tempted to try and attempt to go through them all, but my partner convinced me to two festive gin cocktails instead. While she was ordering I took the time to look more in detail at the bar itself. What befell my eyes was a beautiful copper front and a matching copper ice bucket... it is truly beautiful! But then the drinks arrived and not surprisingly my attention was once more taken away. The cocktails were beautiful, some of the best I've had around! The bartender clearly cared about what she brought to the customers, it was art, but the taste was even more incredible. After a couple of cocktails we decided it was time to change for dinner, as with everywhere else we felt incredibly welcome. Antony, David and a lady I believe to be the restaurant manager were incredible! Nothing was too much trouble and they always assured that everything was to our satisfaction. My partner had the Salmon to start followed by the chicken and Chorizo Linguinie, which she was extremely happy with. I personally had the Pil Pil Prawns, which was to die for and a beautiful, perfectly cooked sirloin which just melted in your mouth. Finally I had 'Mrs P's tiramisu' which was heavenly! I may need to find Mrs P and get the recipe! Also I would add as well, if like me you enjoy a New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc try the one here, one of the best I've had! After dinner my partner enjoyed a Gin and Tonic and I enjoyed a Vesper Martini, which was exceptional. Anyhow, next day it was sadly time to leave. But first after an extremely cosy night... Breakfast! Once again the staff in the restaurant were brilliant, nothing too much trouble! Also (unsurprisingly) the food was incredible and lovely coffee! Just the things you need to get you ready for the day most esecially if like us you venture down to Portreath to have a lovely walk on the beach. On checkout David on reception was kind, curtious and ensured we had a good stay. I don't think it will be too long before returning somehow! Even if its just for a drink or two. This is a fantastic hotel, totally individualistic and won't be found anywhere else in the world. You can clearly see that this is a family owned hotel, it was easy to identify that the staff were not numbers but names. Also of course it managed to retain exceptional guest care and service while also being safe in regards to Covid. Thank you to everyone again!
