Not good for English Guests !!!!

Well where do i begin, Flight was excellent, transfer to resort - excellent, snow conditions - excellent, transfer to the accommodation was ok, then it falls apart...... Accommodation very lovely from the outside and brochure made it look lovely and welcoming, but unfortunatly it was not a warm welcome we received. The owner who greated us was not very friendly. Told us what we can and cant do in the accommodation then given keys to room and let us get on with it. This hotel is not ski in/ski out despite what the brochure states it is a 300mt walk to the gondola station. Swimming pool is half full and cold, swimming caps must be worn whilst swimming even for men with very short hair we were informed. Skis to be kept in locker room in basement no skis in room under no circumstances, well if they though we were going to leave our new boots and skis down there without any means of securing them, they are mistaken. We were forced to rent a locker at the intersport shop at 42 euros, (7 euros a day). The lockers were really good, they will accommodate 2 adults skis, 2 pairs of boots. They also have 2 sets of boot heaters which are really nice in the morning when you put your ski boots on. Used in conjunction with your lift pass. Breakfast is meagre so stock up at the spar shop. HB is available but have to eat at an alternative hotel which is the otherside of the town, approx 15min walk Shower room mouldy, have photos but unsure how to put them on here from phone. Lofer is very very very quiet and ther are very few shops, 3 expensive sport shops, a lovely craft shop, butchers, bakery, Spar shop and icecream parlor. We chose this resort for its recommendation for beginners, but dont feel that it is suited to real beginners as the slopes are graded easier than what they are, for example Some Blue slopes should be graded a Red. We have been fortunate enough to ski in Austria before and the slopes were much easier in that resort, it too was for beginners. You have approx 10 blue slopes, by day 4 your bored as you`ve completed these several times over. Do not pay for private ski lessons they are very expensive, we enquired to have a lesson for 2 adults for 2 hours in the morning at a cost of 140 euros thats almost the same as ski school for the week. Book ski school if you dont use it all week youve saved money anyway. Wiil not return to this resort

Think 70's plain and basic comfort.

Thanks to previous reviews here and on Zoover we had an idea of what to expect from both Lofer and Sonnhof. We booked a budget trip, breakfast and dinner included and budget is exactly what we got. No disappointments there! First off, Lofer: It's a small town with very little Apres-ski options. If you're looking for a night out on the town: forget it... It's a friendly and quiet town, mostly suitable for a young family skiing holiday. The pistes are very nice and the service level is high. There are 2 ski schools that offer many different skiing lessons, for young and old. With a mix of mostly blue and red pistes, beginners and light intermediate skiers are well off, as well as snow boarders. The views are superb! All in all, the skiing experience is excellent if you're (relatively) new to snow sports. Pension Sonnhof is well located: literally 300m's from the gondola station, on a quiet location with a nice view. If you're renting skis at one of the two ski schools at the bottom of the slope, ask for a locker as it saves you the hassle of dragging your gear up and down the hill every day. Sonnhof has a room for ski equipment though. The Pension itself is outdated.Stepping through the door is a flashback to the Austrian 70's, brown colors and old-fashioned quisine included. It's clean and well looked after, but it doesn't meet modern standards anymore. Especially because of the lack of service. The owners are not particularly friendly and their enthousiasm certainly has worn off with age. The rooms were clean, cleaned daily and sufficient. Don't expect a hotel bar and avoid the pool as it is cold and half filled. There is free parking on the premises. The food was also 70's style: Breakfast was sufficient with Kaiser rolls and a variety of cheese, meat and marmelade. Dinner was uninspiring, mediocre calory-rich traditional Austrian food. Bored after two days, we decided to eat out... All in all, if you're expecting a clean, plain Budget hotel and are perfectly okay with that for a low price, if you've decided to spend a bit more on gear and a bit less on location this year, this is the place. If not, Austria has an incredible number of skiing resorts that will make you forget Lofer and especially, Sonnhof.

    Nice traditional guesthouse.

We have spend a week in Lofer last winter. The location is perfect as it is only 2 minutes walk from the ski station. The pistes are well prepared and not overcrowded. The accommodation is traditional and offers all basics for ski holiday- warm room and comfortable bed. The food is also very traditional Austrian- exactly what I was expecting in family run guesthouse in Austria, but we love every meal. The owner speaks little English, which may be a problem for some people, but she is really trying her best. We are planing to go there this year too.
