Good location but unprofessional ownerThe location is very close to the castles but I cannot recommend this hotel based on the owner's conduct. I read about the owner in other reviews but decided to change it based on the hotel's great location. I would caution you not to stay here unless you are ready to be disrespected. Due to the name "Hotel Schwansee," we assumed this was a hotel. It is actually a bed and breakfast and the check-in closes at 8pm. Even though we were late, the owner put a key in a locker and sent the code via e-mail which was appreciated. The room was small and basic. The towels were threadbare and the beds uncomfortable. Our main problem was the thin walls which enabled us to hear the room next door both at night and in the morning. The next morning we arrived early to breakfast (by 15 minutes) and received a diatribe from the owner about arriving late and being early to breakfast. I asked if we could wait in the dining room until breakfast was ready and this clearly upset him. He kept up his attitude with every other guest that attempted to check out while we were eating. We continued to receive nasty looks and scathing comments until we left. I do not understand why someone in the service industry would be that hostile over a misunderstanding about operating hours.

Weekend trip to SchwangauVery nice stay, will definitely recommend to others and would like to stay there again. Staff was very friendly and accommodating, the place is beautiful and easy to reach, and perfect place to stay for visiting the castles nearby. Comfortable and clean rooms, with a nice Bavarian flair with the furnishings. Excellent breakfast, fun to chat with the owner and his son. My wife and I really enjoyed our time at this place.

Make sure you check outThe owner was offended when we left quietly at 6 AM and did not check out or tell him. We left the key on the bed and quietly drove away, no one was up. We had no phone service so we could not tell him, this made him even more bitter. Make sure you let him know you are leaving or he will leave a bad review for you. The hotel is in a good location, no laundry on site or anywhere near though, even though it says there is a laundry onsite. The location is the only draw

We did not feel welcome!Overall our stay was average, but it felt more like we were visiting a grumpy family member than staying in a bed and breakfast. The rooms were clean and had a freshly prepared breakfast. The location is good and relatively close to all the attractions. Sound proofing of the rooms is not that great and you can hear what's going on in the other rooms. Space is also bit cramped but manageable. Without going into too much detail, the host basically does not go out of his way to make one feel welcome. We obviously don't expect much, but if you do speak to your guests, especially in such a small bed and breakfast setup, you need to treat someone at least with some degree of respect. I'm an expat living in Germany and understand that there are big cultural differences, but if you receive a high amount of international travelers you need to have some soft skills and tact when working with other people. Unfortunately i cannot give this accommodation a good rating and sure that we could have found a better place in the area for 100 euros a night.

Great valueGreat value hotel, we really enjoyed our stay. Rooms are comfortable, quite and clean. Breakfast was delicious with local food like cheese. Parking is on site and location of hotel is perfect for hiking and of course visiting the castles.
