Clean, tidy, excellent value for money

We stayed here a few weeks ago as part of a Direct Ski package. Upon arrival we were greeted by a friendly man who explained all about the house, breakfast time, drying room, ski buses, etc. The room itself was spotless, the bathroom was absolutely fine and the shower was like a power washer! The TV in the room was poorly located as it is too high to watch it from the table and too far away from the bed to be easy to watch - either lower it or move it to a wall close to the bed! The bed was extremely comfortable and didnt feel like 2 single beds which is often the case in Austria. The pillows were not sufficient however we asked for some more and there was no problem with this. The internet, while free, was very poor in our bedroom (Room 3). My advice here would be to provide a signal extender. This was the main gripe during our stay. The ski bus stops literally outside the property to bring you to CityXpress gondola - do not book ski lessons at Schmittenhöhe as you will struggle to get there for 9am if you want to get breakfast. The ski bus back finishes early enough but we left our gear in CityXpress, went for a drink and walked back from the town which takes circa 20-25 minute walk along the pleasant water front. There is another ski bus stop about 200m down the road which is served by more buses again - there is a number of buses serving the stop outside the property (check the timetable). The dedicated ski buses go to the CityXpress whereas the other buses go to the Postplatz via the train station which is a bit longer. The breakfast, while plentiful, became a bit repetitive as the week wore on - the choice was limited and instead of muesli there was a sickly sweet chocoalate flavoured cereal which was not to either my girlfriend or my taste. Frau Hochwimmer was friendly and pleasant but not "in your face", which was fine with us. We didnt avail of the packed lunch but judging from other guests it looked plentiful and generous (and probably much better value than the mountain restaurants!). There is no evening meal option however there is a lovely hotel called Hotel Badhaus next door which serves excellent value food. There is plenty of stuffed animals so if you are an animal lover not in the meat sense you might be turned off by this! The only criticism we had of this accommodation was the cleaning lady repeatedly cleaning our room during breakfast and still being there when we got back (before 9am). This was frustrating as we were under time pressure to make the very punctual ski bus every morning. So overall, a bit out of town but you pay for what you get. The place is clean, warm, comfortable and overall an excellent place to stay. Would highly recommend for outstanding value for a ski trip.

    A place with strict routines

My daughter and me visit here for a week of skiing. We were grated from a firm lady. The first surprise was that we needed to carry all our bagage while she just pointed out the places for the boots and skis without even making an effort of helping with our overloaded arms off bagage. On our way to the room we are chocked that the corridor is FULL off stuffed animals and plants. The room was luckily avery nice and airy. The bathroom seemed to be quite new and super fresh. The breakfast that we were served the week was more or less the same the whole week! You choose in the beginning of the stay what you would like to drink to the breakfast and then you were stuck with the choice the whole week. Nice fresh breakfast but boring with the lack off change and the lack off versatility. The communications with the bus just outside the house worked good if you just had the possibility to scan and understand the timetable and numbers on the busses. Took a bit of time but worked good. You also had the possibility to walk to the city (approx 15 min with a great view of the lake). That was something you did when you did not had your skiing outfit on. Even though the place and people seem a bit strange we were overall pleased by the stay. If you just had the gut and energy to actually try to argue a bit with the persons working there you managed to have a really pleasant but adventures stay.

    Great place to stay

This was a lovely b&b, very clean and tidy. The couple who ran it were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was basic but filling, bathroom facilities were excellent. TV only had german speaking channels but wi-fi was excellent. The only negative was it was approx 30 mins walk from the town of zell am see and with no bus service on a night it was a bit out of the way so you had to rely on taxi's which cost approx 10 euros per trip.

    Great place to stay

Just checked out of here this morning. We booked it as a last minute ski trip less than a month ago. The couple running it are lovely and welcoming. Accommodation so clean, room was spacious, lovely and warm. Location is about a 20 minute walk from the min centre of Zell am See but there are buses which leave outside the accommodation. A few changes to breakfast would be good just to allow for more choice. Would highly recommend.

For amount paid I was expecting to get more

Positive things: - location is clean - easy to reach with public transport Minus: - owners are very rigid and not customer/tourists oriented. I had the feeling that are counting the days until they get rid of the guests. Not particularly with us, with everyone. - breakfast is poor with basic things, cold meal. - internet connection is very slow and drops most of the time. Kitchen and the breakfast place is opened from 07:30 until 09:00. After this time is closed and if you want to eat you can do this in your room (officially you are not allowed to eat in your room). Tipp: Rent a double room with toilet inside, you get bigger beds.
