Lovely stay ... but also significant opportunity for improvement

I stayed in Room 304 at The Peacock Inn for 3 nights from September 24 to September 27 2020, and here were some of the plusses and minuses: PROS - Good location about 3-4 blocks to Palmer Square, which is the main town square in the heart of Princeton, NJ and well-located for the surrounding Nassau Street (main thoroughfare) restaurants, shops and Princeton University itself. - Well-kept small hotel / inn with charming rooms and a great staff. Kudos to Sean, Michael, Amy, Leslie at the front desk, and the hard-working housekeeping and maintenance staff. - Decent, diverse choices for the included breakfast every morning, although muffins were incredibly dry and needed to be wrapped further in saran wrap in order to avoid crumbling and lack of moisture. Wonderful fresh-squeezed orange juice, however. Brunch is available Saturday and Sundays indoors and out, as well as high tea on weekends. - Great-smelling Moulton Brown shower gel, shampoo and conditioner, although they were bolted to the shower wall, and you had to press 20 times just to get a handful of whatever you needed because the pump only eked out a little bit at a time. Scent was decidedly masculine, though; I liked it, but its definitely not feminine or even neutral. CONS - More than 75% of the Comcast basic and premium cable TV channels, including all of the Music Choice channels, returned a channel not authorized message because the inns owner is too cheap to pay for a Comcast package with more premium and non-premium cable channels, as well as the music channels. This is unforgivable during a pandemic with limited evening entertainment choices. - The noise levels early in the morning from the housekeeping staff, leaf-blowing maintenance guy outside and Bayard Lanes surprisingly heavy, noisy big-truck traffic make it virtually impossible to sleep late, even on a weekend. Walls are quite thin, and you can hear TVs and doors of all kinds constantly slamming. Bring good earplugs - I recommend the blue waxy ones on that giant retail website that starts with an A, plus some over-ear wireless noise-cancelling headphones, or youll be sorry! - The shower controls, of which there are very many, have no indicators or markings at all, so it takes a long time or a maintenance staffer to figure out how to use them or adjust them for hot and cold. Bathroom floor and toilet seat can both be heated and temperature controlled. - All of the wall outlets in my room didnt work to recharge my phone; only the clock and one outlet in the bathroom worked to do so. - Cant recommend the high tea if youre nervous about catching COVID from indoor dining. Lots of tables with people talking away at full tilt with no masks on as if the pandemic was a figment of someones overactive imagination. (200,000+ U.S. deaths at this point in time). Waitstaff said nothing to encourage mask wearing when guests not eating or drinking, but wore masks themselves, and no signs about mask-wearing were posted in the restaurant at all, other than the requirement to wear a mask when first entering the inn. - No trash basket in room, only in bathroom, which is very inconvenient. No pen, paper, and no notices indicating TV remote or phones or other items had been sanitized. - Be sure to check rooms mini fridge to ensure that what occurred in mine doesnt occur in yours: someone had opened a can of ginger ale, drunk half of it, then stuck it back in the minibar in order to avoid the $3 fee. And yes, Im a former travel writer, so the above represents both my personal and professional opinion.

    Wonderful Stay

Everyone from the Valet to the Housekeeping was a pleasure. There is a nice laid back feel to this well decorated and comfy B and B style hotel. Nicely located within town, and extremely charming. Bartender, Server, Front desk and Restaurant Manager all went above and beyond to make our stay one we will not soon forget. Wondering if the kitchen had an off night because it did not line up with the rest of the top notch experience, so looking forward to giving it another try.

    Gorgeous Boutique Hotel

We had a wonderful stay here. This place is the epitome of attention to detail. The hotel grounds are beautiful, staff is so accommodating, and we had the most amazing afternoon high tea service with delectable scones, tea sandwiches, and desserts that were exquisite both in taste and presentation. The outdoor dining space was lovely. Luxurious rooms and bedding. Excellent service.

Lovely Overnight Stay at the Peacock

This was our first time in Princeton and you can't beat the location to the University and Palmer Square area. Only steps away. The rooms are well appointed and the staff was friendly and attentive. They took great care of us. Nice feel and intimacy of a B&B combined with high-end contemporary hotel amenities and rooms. Due to Covid, instead of their renowned breakfast, we were served a continental style breakfast to our room which was still excellent. Loved the comfortable bed, bed linens and Frette robes/slippers. Solid water pressure in the showers too. The Molton Brown amenities would've been fine until I realized only too late that they put shower gel in the shampoo dispenser. Everyone wore masks and I felt comfortable regarding the overall cleanliness. Would love to come back when everything is normal and get another level from this beautiful place.
