Backpacker standardThe host was nice ,The property was clean and there was plenty of parking and the bed was fine , butt the room was to meet a small number of our population and this room was well below our expectation , the bathroom was not for us and there was noise long after you would expect

Darling staff, lovely amenitiesMy partner and I had to impromptu book accomodation last minute, so we booked the Parkside Lodge and arrived within 25 minutes. We felt a bit terrible as it was nearing the closing time of reception, but we were greeted with warm smiles and kindness. The friendliness of this establishment contributes to a homely stay as she walked us to our room and showed us the amenities. I adored the touches of bird-like decorations, the use of NZ products, and small things like the cotton rounds in the bathroom, coasters, hot cocoa, and a hair dryer. There was also an informational booklet about everything nearby from food, shopping, to transportation. According to previous reviews, this establishment was a private hospital rendered into a lodge, so you will notice less sound proofing between walls/doors. Seeing as how this was a budget motel, we couldn't really complain as the positives far outweighed the negatives. The room was meticulously clean, a communal kitchen was available for use as well as communal living space and laundry area. All of the staff was warm and welcoming, especially upon check in. I would stay here again for the sheer fact that the people were darling & the rooms had nice touches.

Good ServiceOur stay met our requirements and the service and instructions left for us due to our late arrival, were excellent. The place was clean, although musty on artival. We gave the room a good air as it was a warm night so were able to do so.

Not what was expectedThis an ex elderly care home which we didnt know prior to finding our room. Arriving late, as travelling from Wellington we found our details & key as arranged but the letter enclosed didnt have correct information which wasnt helpful. No information in our room about the facilities, no milk in the fridge, a tv that was hopeless, 2 standard single beds in a single size room, wardrobe without any hangers, no drawers, leaky sink / tap onto the only surface to put things in the bathroom, filthy mirror..... the walls are thin & floor was so noisy even creeping around we felt guilty for disturbing the people downstairs. Theres a coke machine in the bottom stairwell that sounds like a jet engine! After disturbing the staff looking for milk for a well overdue cuppa on arrival we were told there was some made up in jugs in the communal kitchen downstairs. Our room was generally clean but in the morning the common areas smelt like an old retirement home; yes Ive been in plenty! The location for Mission Estate was handy & one staff member was helpful in the morning but for us thats where the positives finished. Wed definitely not stay again.

Great to stay with your petsDon't be put off by reviews that this used to be a private hospital. Yes, you can tell that it wasn't built as a motel but the owners have added quirky little things everywhere to make it fun. Most importantly, it is very clean and the staff are so friendly AND your pets are allowed too, which is hard to find. And all that at a very reasonable price in a lovely neighbourhood. For us it was an ideal stop over on our travels further north and we will definitely book again!
