    Fantastic Getaway

Paperbark Camp is tremendous, the rooms are a good size for two, with the open bathroom very well proportioned. There are day beds on your verandah which are great to sit out on or even good for an afternoon nap ;) The food is great, and we did the wine matching with dinner (wine matching & sides are extra) in a lovely setting - ask for a table on the verandah. There are lights within the tents but no electricity (no hair dryers, straighteners, fridges) if you need to charge devices that can be down at the main house / restaurant. It is not a far drive, 10 - 15 mins) to Huskisson or Hyams Beach if you want to lunch or look at the shops there. The staff are tremendous and helpful if you need anything at all.

    Perfect

This had been a work in progress for a number of years for a multitude of reasons so here goes Initial Contact with property This really wasnt a winner. Replies to my emails were always a bit cold and dismissive and I was for a while wondering whether this was the right choice. Arrival and Check In At this point my anxiety washed away. I felt welcomed and valued. Check in was easy and my luggage was collected from the car and whisked down to Kingfisher. Local sites and attractions were pointed out on the map as were the on-site options. The Tent: I think when you get to your tent that is the yep or no point in time. I had trolled the internet repeatedly and pretty much looked at every review, marketing post etc. I had also done safari more than once so had a rough expectation of what my tent should be. Were there cobwebs? Yes... but you are in the bush and even if the cobwebs are removed they are back post haste. Was there animal droppings? Not on check in, more on that later. Was the outdoor shower/bathroom private. Well I walked around naked for 5 days and no one said anything... so I guess thats a yes. Privacy in general. Im a bit of a solitude lover and I have to say my tent was perfect for this, it was at the end of the path so no one came through. The lounges were ideal to sleep for the afternoon and stargaze into the evening. Power... well it really. There was a 12 v outlet and a USB outlet near the head of the bed. If you were really desperate for power they would be ok. Charging is best done in the Gunyah or as I did in my car on the way to the beach etc. Beds...totally comfortable and I had some amazing sleep. Hot water plentiful. I did find it easier to regulate temperature by putting the hot on full flow and then adding cold to suit, Hanging space etc. This was something I had seen no comments on. Kingfisher had a set of shelves and an area with hangers behind the head of the bed. In this space there were also mozzie sticks for the burner, ear plugs, shower cap and an array of insect repellents Robes were also supplied Turn down...no. But thats fine. Do you really need it? Coffee and Tea making... mostly in the Gunyah but a flask is deleivered each morning. There was English breakfast and a herbal tea provided in the tent and coffee along with long life milk and sugar I felt the lounges on my verandah were an absolute must as the let me soak in the solitude and the wildlife Mosquito net provided for the bed but not needed thankfully Food: So this can be a challenging one No you cant really keep food in your tent and there is a medium sized bar fridge and cupboard area up in the Gunyah to store things. If you want to keep a few too many bevies then take an esky or use a 12v cooler. (Not an issue for me but hey) Dining One of the big raves I had seen was about the food and wow, yes it lived up to its reputation. Meals are not huge so if you are a big eater then you will need to add on sides at $11 each. As a solo they were happy for me to go halves but there was way too much food at the end of service A concern for me was also the fact I was going to double on one menu, but the chef had some alternatives which were just perfect. The alternate diet meals looked amazing. Im not sure what was my fave, the beef flank or the breakfast pannacotta which I have tried to recreate. TBH the food was actually better than my visit to Aria just before Christmas. Alcohol is also actually reasonably priced, cocktails are around the $16 mark and the wines are excellent. Most nights have a Diego style pairing for $35 Things to do.. The biggest drawback is the absence of beach but thats fine as you have a lot of options in a short driving distance and as an early riser it was easy to make a good choice based on conditions Kayaks and canoes are in excellent condition and the creek is peaceful mid week. The little jetty was a brilliant add on my only issue as a solo was the challlenge of alighting the kayak and collecting before it floated away. A small mooring rope would have done the trick The bikes were all in excellent condition but unfortunately my planned ride did not eventuate Fellow Guests I have to admit I was astounded by the number of children and my first thought was Oh No.... but to be honest everyone with kids was like minded. A peaceful get away, board games and conversation I have to say however I was, along with quite a few others, unimpressed with the large group who seems to think celebrating a 50th gave them the right to take over and disturb everyone else. Perhaps if you have a group of 17 then it should be you need to make an exclusive booking. The Wildlife (No not the 50 yo) I woke each morning to the chorus of birds or bunch of Roos who liked my space. The kookaburras were m6 alarm clock and the cicadas heralded cocktail hour. The king parrots loved both my balcony and the wooded area near my tent The possums decided each night that they would use my veranda to explore and procreate, often leaving a number of little messages for housekeeping, including in my bathtub and shower, Staff Oh my goodness, I felt so warm and comfortable. Not once was I made to feel like a solo inconvenience. They have it nailed. Thank you The negatives... yes there always is. Other than the party animals. Housekeeping may need to check they have filled tea/coffee and insect burners every day. Return In a heartbeat

    Felt like a honeymoon

My husband and I booked Paperbark and stayed in the King Parrot Tent, which is suppose to be their most luxurious tent. The highlight for us was the restaurant. Special mention to Kyle who was an absolute star. He was so gracious at hosting and all his recommendations were spot on. My husband and I are the type to embrace every situation so the rain did not stop us from venturing out; hiking, canoeing, swimming in the ocean, eating and drinking. The food was sensational. We had the paired wines with all meals and the sides. We are all about the complete experience. The staff were wonderful and attentive and the beds were extremely comfortable. So much so we just bought the pillows they use online. The tent was a little outdated and the possums some how snuck in and ate out chocolate but besides that the two nights felt relaxing, special and honestly like a honeymoon. Thanks Paperbark, see you soon!

A great place to spend a special occasion

My husband and I recently stayed here for a wonderful summer weekend celebrating my birthday. We enjoyed the serenity of the bush, the wonderful wildlife (i.e. kangaroos, possums - not so much), the wonderful food and drinks in your restaurant and the ultra comfy beds. The only thing we were a bit annoyed about was the need to pay for dinner sides - your nightly rate is quite expensive and throwing in a free salad could make your guests' day.

    Luxurious camping.

What a treat it was staying at Paperbark Camp. It was so peaceful, tranquil and surrounded by nature. There is lots of space between the tents so we did really feel like we were the only ones there. The tent was lovely and very comfortable. The bed was big, clean, comfortable and super cosy. When I read reviews before arriving, some mentioned the open air bathroom which had me a little concerned. I neednt have worried. The was plenty of privacy. I also thought that the mosquitoes might have been a problem but we were not bothered by them in our tent. They were certainly around outside, but insect repellent and candles were supplied so we were not bothered by mosquitoes outside either. We enjoyed the kayaks and the Stand Up Paddle boards on the creek. We were the only ones on the water the whole time we were out. The food was great, but be aware that it is a set menu. I loved my stay at Paperbark Camp and hope to return there again.
