An out of the way respiteThe Marjan family runs a wonderful pension in Zavala. They don't quote prices on their website - but gladly quote prices through email. Your actual price depends on exactly what you would like during your stay. Water temperature is best in July. Avoid the crowds of Grad Hvar. Car rental in Split helps as Zavala is a bit out of the way.

Will definitely be coming back!Warm welcome and friendly atmosphere, Marija was expecting us, and came out to the road to make sure we found her. As it is, it overlooks the main beach and harbour in Zavala. Breakfast was included, which was not the case anywhere else we stayed in Croatia, and it was excellent with cured meats, cheeses, homemade jams, fresh bread, fresh squeezed juices and good coffee. The room was bright and airy, with doors opening onto a balcony with sun loungers. Walking along the coastal path in Zavala, there were lots of secluded little pebbly coves for sunbathing and swimming. Note, this place is out of the way, and car or scooter hire is highly recommended. A taxi fare down the hill to Zavala was expensive, and it is not possible to walk owing to a long, dark narrow tunnel for cars. That being said, it means that you do not get the crowds in Zavala, and it made for a really relaxing place to stay.

AccommodationI stayed here arrived on Saturday 23rd. It's actually located in Zavala. The problem here is it's, 50min bus from Hvar and then another 20 taxi ride only, as there is no public service to zavala. I found it very remote. The accommodation was fine, although the shower you had to hold in one hand....which is ok, but' It's a basic thing to have a wall rail to hold the shower head...I would've thought?! Meals are breakfast & dinner, which you need to notify the people the day before....I didn't eat there at all. Looked fine though. Clean and tidy, close to the beaches and has lovely walk & Davor restaurant beside it. People seemed ok, their daughter Nikolina has excellent English and was very useful with buses and times arranging taxis etc.. thank you for that Nikolina. I could stay here agin, it's just the distance away from the main stream, I struggled with......

Nice place but Extremely RemoteIt was a big, nice, modern room. It had an absolutely beautiful view of the sea from my balcony. It must be noted though that this hotel is extremely remote. I love being quiet and away from crowds, but this was even maybe a bit too remote for me. There is no public transportation to get to them. You either have to take a taxi, which is extremely costly or take a bus from the ferry to Jesla town and then a taxi from Jesla to Zavala. The journey is at least 45 minutes in taxi or private car and longer taking bus and then taxi. In addition, there is a very narrow (one way) rudimentary tunnel that you have to go through to reach this place. I thought that I read on tripadvisor that the owners had complimentary pick up from the port. However, I must have been mistaken as the owners will pick you up, but for 300 kuna. I emailed the pansion a few days before to ask if they would be able to pick me up with complimentary shuttle. I did not hear back (found out later that the response went in my spam folder) so I had the clerk at Hotel Perla call to ask if they could pick me up. They told her that it was not complimentary pick up, but could come to get me for 300 kuna. I thought that was a lot so I asked if there was a bus. They told the Hotel Perla person that they would reply to my email with my options. When they replied they said that I could take bus from ferry port to Jesla and then get taxi to Zavala. So I decided I would do that. When I arrived in Hvar at the port, I went to the bus station only to learn that the bus was not running then. I was so upset because it was very dark and I was all alone and did not know how I would get to my destination. I had a woman at a kiosk call Pansion Marjan several times to see if someone could come and get me but there was no answer. I also emailed them while I was stranded at the bus stop. I did not hear back while I was waiting. We tried and tried calling. Finally I went with a taxi and it cost me 400 kuna or about $60.00 US dollars. I was really disappointed that they did not provide me the proper information on how to get to their place. Next, I got up the next morning and was starving and there was absolutely nothing to eat. It was the off season and I was the only one staying in the place. There was no option for breakfast. There is a restaurant next door but they did not open until the afternoon. I asked where I can get something to eat and I was told there was a market and pointed in a direction. However, the market turned out being further than anticipated. A nice neighbor whom I had asked for directions earlier saw me walking and picked me up and dropped me at the market. While there I stocked up on breakfast foods, drinks and snacks for the next several days. I then walked back with two bags and my arm was really hurting me because I have a shoulder injury. That being said, the restaurant next door did have delectable lunch and dinner items. Just keep in mind if you are staying in Zavala on the island of Hvar, you will be extremely remote. The beach was close and it was beautiful water. However, there is really nothing around there at all. If you are going to go into town it is very expensive and a long drive to do so. When I left, the owner's daughter drove me back to the port and it was 150 kuna. So now it appears as though the price of 300 kuna that I was quoted would have been to both pick me up and take me back. If I knew that I would just have had them pick me up and take me back. However, I was unaware and it may have been due to the language barrier.

Great Villa, great food nearby, great rooms, great views, everything great !!We only traveled for a 4 days and in 3 of them it rain like never before in the area. In the day that it was sunny we had long walks along the beach and even had a bath in the freezing water ! The food nearby the villa its one of the best we had, especially the fish and the pizza. The Villa itself is very clean and the rooms have everything you could wish for, we actually had 2 bathrooms in out apartment. They have provided us with everything they had, including advice and contact numbers for taxi and everything else we needed. The area is beautiful full of green hills and lemon trees with a beautiful small port with colored boats and some nice beaches nearby. I would score 10 out of 10 the Villa and the place itself, the only thing not so great is the way you get in there only possible by taxi for about 500 kuna from the port. Thank you Pansion Marjan !! I have added some pics with the place and a small beach we found nearby !
