    acceptable

pretty much what you'd expect for the price, although a little dirty by German standards. Basic but comfortable. Great views from the balcony! Reminded me a bit of my student flat days. Be warned restaurant closes at 9:00pm also the ones in the nearby village. Apparently busy in the winter but empty when we where there. English spoken despite the fact not many from the UK haed this way. Convenient for visiting the Camp Dora musuem and the old Border. Plus a steam train line for enthusiasts only i guess, Only German TV and didn't seem to be any entertainment. Charge for the Gym and the pool didn't seem very inviting. Shop open 1hr per day

    Run down hotel but clean

The hotel is in the Harz region. The feeling you have when walking around the hotel is that once in the past this must have been the place to go to - but now it just seemed old and ruined. For instance some painting would help a lot in the halls. There is a lot to do- bowling (but lanes did not open before 6pm so we did not try that) swimming in the pool (but the kids found the pool a bit boring) various games for a reasonable price. 10 cents pr. minute for the pool-table. For Walking/ running it is perfect. We were travelling with 3 kids and one set of Grandparents and did a lot of sightseeing in the region. I would not have liked to stay in the hotel only! The apartments do have a fairly big living room, small kitchen, small and old bathroom (no sope, shampoo or hairdryer), sleeping rooms were small. One very positive thing was that the apartments were clean! We made our own breakfast but had dinner in the restaurant. Food in the restaurant was OK but do order from the menu as the buffet was no good!

    Good place to stay!

The appartments (we had a 2-3 pers.) consist of; a good size living room with dining area and kitchen, 2 bedrooms-1 small double, one very small single and a small bathroom. They also have a balcony, with table and chairs. They maybe different in style of furnishing/decoration because they have different owners who rent them out.The only difficulty for older people could be the shower in the bath, because of the high step in and out. Perhaps there are appartements with a separate shower? The appartment was very clean. There is no daily cleaning and making up the beds, but for 10.00 euro per day, you can order this service. Then you get clean towels as well, otherwise there are only clean towels on arrival. We had breakfast and dinner in the hotel and both had a sufficient choice. The dinner is not a culinarry experience but it is good food, nice and hot and there is always plenty of variety to choose from. Also a good salad bar. They keep filling up the buffet regularly, there is always enough. The staff were all very friendly!

    A bit worn

First of all: beautiful location, and the appartements are very good when considering the price. The whole place looks a bit worn, and both the restaurant and night club were closed during our stay. We booked two apartments for our family and got apartments in separate towers - not exactly what I had expected. At least that detail should have been mentioned when booking. When we checked out the clerk couldn't see that we had paid - although I had in two occasions been in touch with them beforehand concerning payment. I had to find the receipt from my bank that the money had been transferred before he would accept that we had payed. So their internal procedures also seem very worn

    Off the beaten track

A lovely part of Europe, especially if you enjoy the outdoors. The forest is stunning with footpaths and cycletracks so you can't get too far from civilisation but it can feel like it. The forest does remind you of the Hansel and Gretel story! There are several choices of eating styles in the hotel and evening entertainment. The hotel caters for children with a kid's club. There is a sauna and swimming pool with friendly staff. The reception staff speak English but most of the local information is in German. You can self cater but it means travelling to a bigger town Braunlage to shop
