  The Italian Job !

  Was due to go to Tenerife - then Greece but finally chose a last minute holiday in Sardinia to escape any worry of quarantine when we returned. Beautiful beaches gorgeous weather everyday and the sea clear as glass! However, the hotel is purely an Italian hotel we my wife and I didn't mind so much the Italians are lovely people but my teenage kids moaned they could not make friends easily as they did not speak Italian. We arrived late and we did not feel welcomed at all the lady on reception did not seem to pleased to see us and we had to make our own way to find the room with luggage in the pitch black had no clue where to go - we soon saw that the Italians got all their luggage taken to the rooms and were looked after far more than we was on arrival. Our room was really for two people not 2 adults and 2 teenagers but it was definately clean and it was cleaned everyday - again we were not too fussed about this as it was a last minute choice and we was just glad to get away to the sun. Pool and Bar great - the beaches are shingle but still nice and you don't get sand everywhere. The entertainment crew worked very hard and seemed to be brilliant for the Italians however we did feel a bit left out as they did not translate what was going on - but we were the only English family in the hotel but it would of been nice to know what was said. The food was good something for everyone - we do not like fish in our family but if you do then there is plenty of fish for you on the grill! 3 star for the food not 4 star Gala Gonone is beautiful small village plenty of bars and restaurants on the sea front. Hotel complex is lovely - it has tennis courts, table tennis and basketball court - set in a forest setting - you need to walk up and down steps to the beach which is good excercise on a lazy holiday! I would not recommend it to the UK holiday maker though unless 1/ you speak Italian or 2/ Not bothered about understanding Italian. The Italians are lovely people by the way the atmosphere around the pool was lovely, polite and pleasant. (so it seemed maybe it was just because I could not understand a word they were saying! ) Two lovely Pool bars one with fantastic view of the bay - we went on a boat trip to Cala Luna and also the Blue Marino Caves which was great Kids went Scuba diving which they loved too so all in all a great holiday. We went half board as the hotel did not do All Inclusive you pay for the drinks at the pool - we did miss the All inclusive option maybe they could consider it ? Overall the hotel grew on us as we stayed longer the Italians started to recognise us as "The English family" and did try and talk to us more in English as we got to know them. Sardinia is beautiful so would recommend it to anyone
