  ''helpful owner''

  I stayed here for one night on a stop over before Matera and thoroughly enjoyed my short stay. The owner went out of his way to help me out and advise what and where to visit close by. Friendly and helpful hotel staff, good sized breakfast and decent food available for dinner too. It is located along a highway but once you are inside the hotel you do not notice this.

  Nice and friendly and on the main road

  We used this hotel as a base for four nights to visit the surrounding areas. As very little else was open it was very handy with its own restaurant. We were made to feel very welcome, the room was large, the bed comfortable and with our room at the back the road noise was minimal

  Palatinum Restaurant not up to par.

  We had lunch at the restaurant in the Hotel Palatinum in the city of Bernalda. The decor is very nice with tablecloths, etc. Our waiter didnt speak much English, but we got our orders in by pointing to the items on the menu. I had the noodles with meat sauce and an order of veal. My wife chose Brushetta and a chicken cutlet. The noodles with meat sauce was very good, but the veal, although a generous portion, was on the dry side. The Brushetta was just so-so and the chicken cutlet, when served, was obviously undercooked. Our server immediately took it back to the kitchen for more fire. When she brought it back, it was well done! It was dry and had no sauce or anything to make it more palatable. We asked for Chardonnay wine and that seemed to cause some problems. It took some time and they finally showed up with a carafe of an amber wine that was definitely not Chardonnay (maybe a Sauterne?). Neither of us finished the glass. In any event, the whole dining experience at the Hotel Palatinum was not up to par.

  Great food

  Stayed here for one night during coach trip to Matera from Rome. Super efficient check in. Room basic but spotlessly clean and comfortable. Generous set lunch was served seamlessly and our request that dinner be served an hour earlier than originally requested was met without problem. Dinner was fish based and delicious. All the staff were helpful and professional. Very pleasant experience.

  A pleasant and enjoyable stay!

  Our days at the hotel were made interesting and relaxing by the whole hotel staff! Their attentiveness to me and my family's needs were outstanding. Each day they recommended great places to experience the local cuisine. Salvatore went above and beyond to accommodate our arrangements at the beach as well as our daily excursions. Many thanks goes to Emilia for her hospitality and for all her useful information about the local culture. We strongly recommend this hotel to anyone interested in visiting the Lucania region. Grazie a tutti!
