Return exceeded expectationStayed in newer room "22" remodeled with kitchen. The back of the building made for a restful evening. Kitchen was well equipped. Room is well ventilated. Table and chairs and easy chairs as well as a comforatable bed. I would book this room next time. I had a few conference calls and this setting worked well. Great shopping and restaurants in the immediate area, masks were respected and staff was accomodating. Always a favorite place to be in Port Townsend. Book ahead, hotel was at full capacity, while I was there

Charming historic hotel with some quirksThe good: The Palace is a beautiful old building, charmingly furnished, always a delight to the eye inside and out. The amenities are graceful and pleasant. My sister and longtime traveling buddy and I stayed in Room 15, Miss Genevieve. The staff here were friendly and efficient, and the CoVid 19 precautions seemed fine. We didn't have to see the other guests at any point in our stay even though the place was full for two of the four days, so I call that a success. Housekeeping put towels and toilet paper on a table outside our room for us when asked by phone. Rates were very inexpensive during the off-season, and two of our days of stay were on Sunday and Monday night. Our entire stay for four days was equal to the cost of two days downtown during Sakuracon in Seattle, if that gives you any idea. So do realize that, for any shortcomings, the place was clean and well-maintained and very reasonably priced. There is parking with a permit, and while the lot did fill up Saturday night, you can actually park anywhere on the street between the Hotel and the adjoining building without getting towed. It was never a problem, and no one bothered our car. It's right on the main street of Port Townsend's historic downtown, which we had fun strolling about when we weren't off clambering through ruins. The bed was deliciously comfortable, lots of soft pillows, big soft pillowtop mattress, with an extra warm blanket in the closet for the chilly nautical evenings. There was a cable TV, although sadly it is disabled from using the streaming features so I couldn't smartcast Netflix in the evenings or anything like that. There was a lovely vintage couch and chair to add to the atmosphere. The bad: With that vintage charm comes the consequences of staying in a vintage building. ALL of the Palace's guest rooms are up the steep stairs. We knew that going in, and we are both able-bodied, so it wasn't a real problem for us, but we did make some repeated long trips loading and unloading. Don't try and stay here if you have limited mobility. The hot water is very stingy. This was true on the less populated Sun-Mon nights, too. The clawfooted tub, while adorable, is a hazard to get in and out of, and the curtains do not provide adequate cover to prevent leakage onto the floor during showers. Since there's so little hot water, you can't take a luxurious bath, which is literally the only reason I would want a clawfooted tub. There was an intermittent stink of sewage, not from the bathroom, but by the bed area near the corner adjoining the bath. This came and went; had it been constant I don't know if we would have stayed. I'd be concerned there's a leaky pipe somewhere behind the wall or something, if the owners should read this. We didn't say anything, since there's not really something a desk person could do about that (also see: stingy hot water).

Loved this place! This hotel is so beautiful and very rustic. My favorite part of this hotel was the lofted studio set up. We had a whole floor for relaxing and then a floor for sleeping. The staff was also very helpful. Make sure to take a walk along the downtown and try some of the restaurants and foods. The hotel staff recod a few for us that were really good.

Wonderful hotel and excellent staff - *book directly through the hotel's website! This hotel is in a majestic location in downtown Port Townsend, WA. The hotel dates from the late 1800s and has essentially two distinctly different vibes. There are the "traditional" rooms lovingly adorned with Victorian era decor and another section of modern rooms recently beautifully remodeled. Both are done with care and are comfortable. If you want to ensure a view be sure to book a view room directly through the Palace Hotel website. My most recent stay at the hotel started with a bit of a hiccup that the hotel staff handled marvelously. My partner and I booked our room via an outside agency thinking we had a view room only to arrive and not have a view. Needless to say we were saddened by the lack of a sea view and went to the front desk to address this issue. The hotel, understandably, were booked and we were unable to move to another room (though they did try to see if there was a way to move us). They emphasized how booking through an outside company meant they didn't always have control over which room we were given and wanted to ensure we booked direct in the future. We thought about cancelling but the room (even without a view) was lovely and the location of the hotel perfect and so we decided to stay and were given a complementary bottle of wine. Compliments to the professional staff who genuinely seemed to care about our stay and worked to try to find a solution. We will definitely stay again soon booking directly through the Palace Hotel website!

An affordable GemWe have visited Port Townsend many times and stayed either in a hotel on the edge of town or a rented house/VRBO/HomeAway outside of town. We had assumed that a hotel room near the water and the historical district would be more expensive overall, especially if the meals were considered. We planned our recent trip with only a few days before it was to start and we were pleasantly surprised to find rooms with beautiful views and full kitchens! We stayed in Room #1, the "Crow's Nest," a Victorian loft room on the (second?) floor, with a full kitchen and a loft for our queen sized, very comfortable bed. It was fun that the paintings and wall coverings were quaint, but we had a very nice large screen TV we could turn to be seen from different locations, but having the ability to stream or cast media to it would have been a bonus. The sofa was a bit too soft, sinking down a foot or more when seated, while the chairs and barstools were on the hard and creaky side. The electric stove burners took forever to heat but did a good job once hot. We had minimal, but sufficient silverware.
