TERMITESStayed here long term for work on the island. I was at monkeypod cottages. The owner Julia was not very helpful. She always told me what she couldnt/ wouldnt do or fix. The place is rundown and you cant even see the house for all the bushes. The pics online are of when they were 1st renovated. Not now. Everything in this place is old and covered in termite dust. Termites everywhere. Flying through your kitchen, in your luggage, in your bed. The owner does nothing. Mold everywhere and it smells. Theres tape everywhere and thats what she calls maintenance. Stay further away to visit Black sands beach. The drive is beautiful and you will be 100% more comfortable. Not worth the money

Comfortable accommodationStayed here for 3 nights near the end of May. We were concerned with the ashes and SO2 gas from the volcano eruption. Owner, Julia, was very accommodating and made sure we have a good air-conditioning unit to filter out the falling ashes in the event the air quality was unhealthy. Everything turned out fine. The amount of ashes was minimal and SO2 was within acceptable levels. The A/C helped. The unit itself was spacious and has everything we needed. It is rustic but maintained nicely. Bed was comfortable. Free Wifi. Enjoyed our stay.

Exceptionnal authentic plantation houseWe had a unique experience! This is an authentic plantation house which was well maintained and kept very clean. You have access to the whole house and terrain. Julia, the owner, made us feel at ease from the very beginning. We had the chance to assist to a live musical evening within the cottage which was just marvellous. Would recommend anytime.

Misleading information / Manager not truthfulWe booked for 2 nights through Hotwire/Expedia website. Turned up at the accommodation and waited for over an hour for Julia Neal - the owner/manager - to check us in. Went to her workplace and no one knew where she was. Went back to the plantation and still cant find her so advised the girl sharing Julia Neals office that we have to find another accommodation. Because we booked it through Hotwire, Hotwire refused to refund our money for an accommodation that was not delivered. Julia Neal advised Hotwire that she could not check us in because of lack of communication and as they are in a remote area and that there are only a few staff in the hotel and also assisting other customers. What a load of rubbish. As per our attached photos, Pahala cottages building is dilapidated and unkept so i am not sure where those travellers who give Pahala good reviews stayed.
