Excellent OnsenMy wife and I have been coming to this 6 room onsen for about 6 years and it remains one of our favorites. We generally stay in the middle or large rooms so there is an inside bath and outside bath, great for my wife and 5 y.o. son. Highlight is definitely the food, which is the best compared to any other onsen we have even been to. I would put up the food against any Michelin starred restaurant in Tokyo. Service is really personal so it is always a pleasure to return to when we want to get away from Tokyo. A perceived downside is that there is no communal bath since there are only 6 rooms so those looking for the more traditional Japanese onsen experience should try a bigger onsen first (like Gora Kadan in Hakone).

Excellent Japanese food and private hot springStayed with my family. There are only a few houses each of which is a two-floor house. There are two private hot spring bath tubs in the house. The value propositions of this hotel are the food and hot spring. The location of the hotel is in the residential area. In the neighborhood, there are also cherry blossom park, Mr. Omuro, and Izu Cactus Park. The Japanese food was excellent, and the hot spring is so relaxing. I wish the view from the balcony/hot spring is more relaxing as well.

Service and Food Stand OutThis was the first of three ryokans we tried in this area. After the three , this one stood out for the great service and fabulous food. First off: we seldom find bad ryokans. Some have distinctive features. This ryokan: very boutique. 6 rooms in total. Our room had two personal onsens. One indoor, one outdoor. Floor area was about 250 sf feet downstairs and 200 sq ft upstairs (yes we had two floors to ourselves!) No view obstruction: we were looking towards the sea in the distance. As it goes this would be the standout feature in many ryokans already! But surpassing this were two things: service and food. Service was highly personalised. Our receptionist was our restaurant server and our concierge. All our pre-registration requests were fulfilled and anticipated. Every effort was made to be unobtrusive and invisible. Food: the chef was a master of frying techniques. Meals were elaborate multi-course multi-plate affairs but aside from the caught-that-day freshness of all the seafood, the chef impressed us with his delicacy in frying:fried fish skin was like shavings of crystallised air that melted on the tongue. Magical! My wife Caroline also rated this as one of the best ryokans we have stayed in.
