Nice Onsen, Otherwise AverageThis is quite a nice ryokan. It is about 4 kilometres away from the train station so you will need a taxi how to get to there (about 10 dollars). The room is tidy and you can make a nice fresh coffee. You can book an onsen to yourself and that costs about 15 dollars. Otherwise you can use the public onsen. The private onsen has a feeling of looking up at the stars which is nice. Being set up on a hill the ryokan has the feeling of being in the country. You will need to organise a taxi to go back and forward from town. There are some nice walks which you can do which up directly behind the hotel. Is a nice little town but I would suggest the one night is enough. The ryokan had a feeling that there were a lot of rules more so than the average ryokan. For a ryokan I will give it 3 and a half stars. In the room I have the bed was not a futon but was a normal bed. There is a toilet and a hand basin. So you need to be comfortable using an onsen in order to have a shower / bath.

Nice staywe have a nice say overthere, although our room is located in a quite high floor and require some walking distance, but the staff is very friendly to introduce the area to us as well as give us 2 free hot spring egg. The room is very large and we have our own private hot spring. Dispute we have traffic accident when we are heading out and the staff is willingly to help us calling police and insurance company as we are not fluent in japanese speaking but the staff help us to talk to them directly. Unfortunately, we did not try their dinner and breakfast.

No Value HereHow would you feel if you were not allowed to check into your room until 15:00 then, upon checking in exactly at that time, being told you cannot have dinner at your hotel because you didn't book it in advance? This is what exactly transpired when I checked in last week. Later, I found out that dinner was served at 18:00, giving the hotel three hours to prepare an additional dinner if they had the desire to do so. Upon checking out, I found that they would have charged an additional 6,000 yen per person for dinner which is close to the 8,000 yen rate (per person) to stay there. It's disappointing that the management of this Japanese onsen have no desire to give their guests the best experience possible. The rooms are nice and cozy, however, lack a bidet (now a standard in all hotels and public toilets). I was able to locate one at the indoor onsen by chance. Otherwise, there are none available throughout the hotel. Most likely because we booked online and received what they perceive as a cheap rate (although I don't consider 8,000 yen per person without any meals a cheap rate), they gave us a room that faced the road leading to the hotel. It was quiet throughout the evening but extremely noisy from all the trucks driving through from 06:00AM. Who wants to be awakened by the roar of trucks during their stay at an onsen? They posted "free WiFi" as part of their amenities, however, the connection didn't work or was spotty if you were able to access it. Their onsen facilities are lacking. The outdoor "rotenburo" has only one washing station, forcing guests to either wait in the blazing cold to use it or simply splash on some water from the hot spring using a bucket to wash up. Finally, as expensive as their costs are, they do not accept credit cards. All in all, I do not recommend this hotel to anyone looking to experience a relaxing stay in Yufuin.

A nice place to stayI loved the onsen here. The food was nice and staffs were very kind. We stayed in the room with open air bath but the tube was little small. Overall, I would recommend this place for staying in Yufu with affordable price.

Amazing food, clean room and heart warming serviceReasonable price for the whole experience. We were booked the balcony dome house with private outdoor onsen. Although the room is located a bit far from the main entrance , it was worth to walk and the staff were very nice to carry our luggage all the way to the room. I saw they have golf cart should be for the elderly and kids to access to their rooms. We didn't use the public bath and the outdoor onsen in the garden as we had in room private onsen. Dinner starts at 18:00 and breakfast starts at 8. All the dishes were so delicious and staff is so details on eyes. Room , bed was clean and very spacious with birds decor. Would be perfect if they have in room bath or shower
