    Great hotel, perfect food.

Stayed for a week, half board, for skiing. The hotel is well located in the village centre, with ski bus stops close by. Access to the Alpentherme is a definite bonus. Food, both breakfast and evening meal, is of a very high standard and restaurant staff were very welcoming and friendly. The room itself was well furnished and comfortable, with just a few niggles - the shower door sticking for example. It would have been nice to have had drinking glasses replaced when used, and a few more towels given the pool.

    Skiing holiday

Stayed here as part of our ski package, and wasnt disappointed. Booked a superior room and was located in the Panorama building of the hotel. Room had key card entry, was spacious, well equipped and modern/ contemporary decor, twin Austrian beds, balcony, separate bathroom with wc , basin and shower, soap and shower gel provided and towels changed as required. Plenty of storage space, safe in wardrobe. Mini fridge and tv in room. Food was served in the main hotel building, breakfast was self service continental style, with omelettes and pancakes etc cooked on request, evening meal consisted of a self service salad buffet, followed by 4 courses waiter served. All drinks at dinner are chargeable except tap water. Our waiter, George, was efficient and friendly and quickly got to know our drinks and our food likes/ dislikes. He is a credit to this hotel. The evening meal choices are chosen from the menu during breakfast, then served efficiently dinner. The food is the best we have had during any of our ski holidays. There is no hotel bar as such, so nightlife is very low key. There is secure storage for skis/ snowboards with racks and boot warmers. Ski bus stops to the variety of ski areas just meters from the hotel. The Schlossalmbahn gondola is approximately a 6-7 minute walk from the hotel.

    Luxury experience for us

Stayed at hotel 29th Feb 2020. Booked with crystal ski. Room was small room with two single beds and shower. Was worried about size of room but had no need. The view from balcony was in one word WOW. Had the beautiful church to the left and a panoramic view of the mountains to the front and a lovely pedestrian square. The food was a very high standard. Really enjoyed breakfast. Menu on table to pick your main course at breakfast. Evening meal was exceptional. Served by very pleasant and helpful staff. Big thank you to Ivan who was so kind to us. Even Chef came to our table one evening to make sure we where happy with the food. For my wife and I it was delicious. Also with hotel is the free entrance to alpentherme which is such a big plus. Dressing gowns are got from reception for 8 each for week. You dont leave hotel to get alpentherme as there is an underground walkway to it. Such a relaxing place to go after a days skiing. The hotel also has its own private pool and health spa which is of a very high standard. Hotel in a really great location and we never heard a thing at night. The hotel is only a 10 min walk in the morning to the new lift which my wife and I liked to do to loosen up and work a little of the breakfast off. There are lockers to hire at the base of lift from the inter sport shop. 50 for a twin locker for the week. Well worth it. We would recommend Dorfgastein for great skiing. My wife and I had a great experience at the hotel.

    Nice hotel but avoid half-board

It took so long do decide to write, or not write this review. But I guess I made up my mind, I will share my experience. First, for the + side, the hotel looks good and has a good location. Parking is provided in another location, but not far. Except for some small misunderstandings we had at arrival, staff's english is not bad, however attention could have been paid to small details which completely change the meaning of what they want to say, long story short it was ok, they were helpful. I am satisfied with reception staff. The room was ok, quite spacious, clean. The amenities were also ok. Acces to the hotel spa, as well as the local Therme, is a plus. Now for the (_) side...well, we literally starved. We had breakfast dinner included, and gala New Year Dinner included as well. Although we highly appreciated the quality of the menu, and the attitude of the staff, which were great, I cannot put aside the fact that they served very, very, little food. And I am not used to eating much, I'm a 48kg/105 lbs woman. Most of the tourist were skiers, so was I. Quite hungry in the evenings. But this was not such a big deal, not enough to say this hotel was average. What really made me give this rating was NEW YEAR'S DINNER. EVERYBODY, I mean everybody, was starved. The guests ate all the bread that was available in no more than 20 min, before they even served starters. They went to buy more bread, but they were not so keen to put it on the tables. There was a gala menu. It was good, very good. But like 1/4 the normal size for a Gala Dinner. We were extremely embarrassed to ask for more bread. The manager (I think ) came and asked how everything was, and we found it was inappropriate to complain about the portion sizes, in that moment. We told him it was ok, but it was not ok, not by far. We went to bed extremely frustrated and with an empty stomach. Breakfast was ok in general. My advise is to avoid half-board, unless you like to go to sleep being hungry. That for New Year, too.

Appalling staff attitude, but overall good hotel.

Female solo traveller from the UK. This was first time in Austria. Came with an open mind, didn't know what to expect. I hope my review prevents other female guests from experiencing the stinging embarrassment and stress I had in this place. Overall good hotel, nice food, the Bulgarian waiter in the restaurant was very attentive, sadly I didnt get his name. Staff wear no name badges. VERY LITTLE COMMUNICATION FROM STAFF. The say very little even if you ask and get visibly irritated if you continue your enquiries. I felt like I was expected to know everything and be an expert on local customs and traditions. No important information booklets in the room. I was only given an advertising brochure which was totally useless. English is hardly spoken, perhaps this is the reason. But I believe foreigner guests MUST BE WARNED about the NAKED SAUNAS at the Apheltherme ( termal baths and the leisure centre connected to the hotel) to avoid the shock therapy. I have travelled extensively throughout Europe but never ever seen anything like that. Herds of total strangers, all starkers. An abhorrent view, I have to say if you are not used to it. Have never even heard of it either. When you come to the Apeltherme, nobody greets or welcomes you. You look confused, they don't approach. No smiles, nothing. All signs are in German, no English translation. Again, you are supposed to somehow JUST KNOW the rules of this establishment. I accidently wandered into the mixed sauna, which was marked simply as Sauna World. The male attendant with intimidating and rude attitude, "get undressed, this is naked area or f*ck off!" I was genuinly lost for words. Left feeling terrified and trembling. Called the reception to complain about the situation, but the young hungarian girl just laughed it off, saying locals think nothing of it. No apologies, no explanation that there was actually the females only sauna. (I learned about it later from a Czech lady which was called by the militant male attendant to kick me out when I refused to remove my clothes). Sounds comic, but not so much when you are there alone, don't speak any German and have Slavic appearance. Why couldn't they simple ask at the Reception - have you ever been to Austria? Know about the Local Saunas? - No? - Please be aware of this tradition etc. etc. Simple communication like that could make a HUGE difference to my experience. Hope my view helps my fellow female travellers. If you seek attentive service don't stay at this hotel, especially if non-German female, travelling alone. Hire a private self-contained apartment instead. Breathtaking views of the Alpes. I went hiking everyday. The only thing I enjoyed about this place. But again, hiking tours are in German. WHICH ONCE AGAIN !! was not indicated on the hotel's website at the time of booking. Upon checking out, nobody asked how was my stay, wished to have a safe journey etc., just pay your money and go. Never felt SO STRESSED OUT being on holiday break in my whole life, even when traveled with the kids. Positive comments are surely made up. 3* maximum to this hotel.
