    Big, Noisy Rooms

I stayed Novemebr/ DEcember 2011 for 2 weeks on business. The reception is clean with helpful staff. My room was on the 2nd floor. The rrom was very large and had a window straight onto the street so I couldnt open the curtains much. The room had a double bed and then some very basic furniture (desk, fridge, closet) which didnt fill the space but was comfortable enough. The bathroom, although clean had strong smells both from the toilet water and the tap water, so you needed to run the tap for some time before the smell receeded. No plugs made baths and shaving an adventure. Due to the size of teh rooms and the terrible noise insulation they rooms amplify any sounds to a large extent. So when they hve party in the restauarnt below it sounds louder than the party. Not such a problem but after the party (11PM) they then dragged furniture about the tiled floor which again echoed loudly through my room making sleep impossible. The rooms are not so expensive and breakfast is fine for the inclusive price. The free wifi is very slow. The restaurnt is quite expensive and does not allow payment to be put on the rooms. And although the hotel accepts Amex the restaurnt does not which is strange. All in all a simple hotel that would not take much to bring up to standard but at present lacks some basics.

    Fantastic staff

We had to use the facilities and needed some help on a recent visit to Samara, the staff at the hotel were very courteous and helpful. We stayed for coffee and later some drinks. I would recommend this hotel simply for its staff.

    Not good at all

I give it 2 points given it's a Russian provincial hotel. Otherwise it would be a 1. +++ + Located close to the river Volga embankment + Cheap, especially the large rooms they call 'lux' + Rooms have been recently renovated, but see my '---' points + wifi + 'Biscuit' restaurant is on the first floor, which is probably good - at least it looks like a restaurant --- - The rooms are not well kept. The paint comes off, the wallpaper comes off, etc - The bathrooms are so cheap and ugly you don't want to use them, especially the dirty bath curtain - The towels are smelly, small and thin - All you get in a bathroom is just two sachets: one shampoo and one shower gel. If you are on a business trip and travelling light without the bath gel you are stuck - Bed linen was shorter than the bed o_O - Breakfasts are served in a greasy room with armchairs which pretend to be trendy, the choice of food is very poor - The entrance to the hotel doesn't look like a hotel entrance at all - more like a back door of an office building My advice - don't go there and choose carefully

    More than good enough

+ Ost-West is a decent place to stay, and it has a surprisingly good restaurant. The restaurant doesn't look all that inviting as it has no windows, but the breakfast and other food is very good. There's nothing bad to say about the rooms, they're spacious and comfortable. The staff behind the counter is very helpful. - The lobby bar drags the place a bit down: it doesn't offer much interesting, but it's better than nothing. There was trouble with the WiFi connection in my room, which was a bit annoying, but it worked perfectly in the lobby. Nearby: There's a newly built nightlife area just down the hill. Among many other attractions, it has a restaurant called Yar which should definitely be visited, and also a nice river promenade. The old downtown is just a short cab drive or public transportation trip away.

If you're not looking for fancy - just fine

This is a standard, regional hotel in a good location near the Volga in Samara. The rooms are decent, though the bathroom was less than adequate and offered little in the way of amenities. The Internet worked well. The "Biscuit" restaurant is certainly adequate, including for breakfast. Front desk help was pleasant and very competent - and they spoke very good English, which is already a plus at any Russian hotel.
