Prisoner in the downtown...This is one of the historical hotels of Orel..... but for my opinion this beautiful city is offering better choices... The hospitality is not the best (when i come receptionist was shouting on me because i was not understanding the right direction to the elevator) and i think that this place has the worst "value for money" ratio that i have ever seen!!! If you really think to stay there i suggest to find one external laundry, since this service here is really awful and the price too much high (i think it can be almost convenient to buy new clothes). Internet is not free, if i remember very well for one hour you should pay 100 rubles (2.5 euro), practically one ROBBERY, because we are not at burj al arab in Jumeirah (Dubai)! Restaurant is available inside, but anyway i suggest to take dinner or lunch outside because there are lot of other places available outside (tasty and cheaper). Anyway i can tell that rooms are small but clean and not noisy, but curtains are really thin and every day the light of the sun will wake up you really early (in Russia are not spread the blinds) I want to add that In every floor there is one guardian : this feature let you feel like a prisoner...

Average hotelAlthough first impression was good, in the end of visit hotel appeared for me not so good. The room was quite spacious and clean, it was warm inside (it was -17 on the street). My room's windows were looking at the central street so it was quite noisy until 8pm and very noisy from 8 am because of tractor that was cleaning snow outside. Breakfast was awful and restoran staff was very unfriendly. I think that this hotel is not the worst in the city, but I can't compare. Location of hotel is right in the center of the town with several restaurant in 5-minute walk distance.

A taste of soviet times in 2014!Despite the title of my review, I actually preferred this hotel with all of its drawbacks, over the more modernized , westernized hotels in the Orel region. Yes, the beds were old and lumpy, the food in the in-house cafe was bland and simple, the help was not the best at hospitality, the streets below were obnoxiously loud from 9:30 pm to 4:30 am ( or 21:30 to 4:30 , for you outside the U.S. ) ...despite all of those drawbacks...this actually gave you the truthful idea that you were still in Soviet Russia. It was quaint, sweet, and true; unlike the modernized and brand new hotels, that give a visitor the false sense that they are in a "new Russia". Do not be fooled. Even though Some of Russia has modernized, it is still very much stuck in Soviet times. So, enjoy the truth of it at this fine soviet Hotel Rus, I mean Hotel Orel.

a good first-time experienceThis was our first visit to Orel, and we found our stay quite pleasant. This hotel seems to be located near the center of town, across from a park, and within walking distance of the river, and a pedestrian boulevard. We had breakfast each morning in the restaurant inside, and there was a grocery story around the corner. Very convenient. Our accommodations were simple, but sufficient. And I loved the great halls! Creaky wooden floors, feeling like one stepped back in time.
