OK if you are visiting Polytechnic University

This hotel would not be a natural selection for me if not chosen by a conference organizer. However, if you are visiting the Polytechnic University in St Petersburg and don't want to take subway every day, this might be your only choice. The room is clean but very basic. Only some rooms have air conditioning. In the mid of July, there were two days when it was hot and it became really uncomfortable and for the other time it was fine since you can open the windows. The hotel rooms are nonsmoking but people are allowed to smoke in the stair way, which makes the air smelly in our room next to the stair way. The breakfast was included, basic but OK. Recommend not to take the lunch or dinner there since you could find good and cheap food from the street or entrance to subway nearby. You got to try the meat pies sold from the little kiosk, cheap but very tasty. The good part about the hotel besides its location close to Polytechnic University, is: (1) there is a coin laundry place, Prachka, which is 100 meter away from the hotel. Note that the coin laundry is a very rare thing in Russia. This would make a huge difference to you if you don't want to pack too many clothes. (2) there is a big 24 hour grocery store next to the hotel. (3) The subway station is 2 minute walk from the hotel. (4) there is a MTC (MTS) store across the street from the subway station, where you could spend RUB 150 (about $4.5) to buy a GSM SIM card for 100 min talk time and 50M/day mobile data. Some of the hotel stuff could speak a little English, but they were very helpful and we actually did not have much trouble at all by communication with English words plus hand gestures.

    Not bad...inside

The hotel is situated close to the subway, but it is bette to use taxi for your arrival, because its huge grey unfriendly facate turned to the Nepokorennich prospect (Unconquered ave) and it is hard to find its entrance on the back, from the side of subway station. My first impression was "Oh, God, one more ugly grey soviet building with cracked walls and dirty rooms!" But inside it was nicely renovated. My room were clean, had a shower with hot water every day. Refrigerator, telephone and TV. Also - boiled water and iron in the hall. They have an electronic keys, easy and safe, comparing to common keys. You can buy Russian souvenirs in the lobby. The hotel offering a dry clean, gym, internet corner and cafe on the 8th floor. They said there is a "buffet breakfast", but all I got was a couple of sandviches, some kind of fried eggs or plate of pouridge. At least I could have an extra cup of tea. The cafe stuff are working very fast while serving food, but they do not seem very friendly, like I came to TAKE TREIR FOOD. During my 5- days stay bed linen and towels were changed once. I wish the security and reseptionist at least once said "hello" or smiled to me. But they just silently watched me passing by. Its a pity the windows were shut and glued with paper stripes - it was summer. That` s why the room was too stuffy and I can not sleep well.

A New Zealander (kiwi) a long way from home

Pleasant cost effective 7 day stay, just needed a place to rest as out every day exploring St Petersburg.... very good location close to Metro station and super market. Local fast foods close proximity. Reception Staff friendly and helpful, house maid outstanding handling my laundry, my limited Russian got me by. You can find her on the 3rd floor, call reception first to confirm location as there is an 8 th floor laundry room, if lost just approach any of the several house maids as they are very approachable and helpful. Breakfast on the 6th Floor, waiters very helpful, no trouble to me a decent coffee at 60P. Selection of food adequate, be warned of noisy ignorant Chinese tourists, recommend Breakfast late morning to avoid Chinese mayhem. Laundry machine washed and line dried only... reasonable cost There is a Laundromat short walking distance for fast turn over. Cash machine in the Lobby. Wifi slow but adequate. Metro station easy to navigate to the sights, restaurants etc. Generally St Petersburg locals very helpful impressed with history and antiquity. Overall impression... personally I enjoyed staying in a former soviet era building, experiencing local interaction and utilising the metro. Well done the hotel staff for hosting me.

    Good stay

4 stars given with thanks to guest service agent Dmitri, for his wonderful customer service. We arrived and made a walk-in booking without realising the room we were booking did not include an air conditioner. After attempting to sleep and struggling, we contacted reception and Dmitri assisted in advising us we could upgrade to another room type at a small additional cost, which we didnt he showed us to the room first to ensure we were happy before organising the change. The room was a suite and was well equipped, had great air conditioning and was very comfortable to go home to after the World Cup game we attended. Dmitri further assisted us in booking taxis, advice on the area, money exchange, sight seeing and was always happy to help and assist in any questions we had. Wifi was adequate and we were happy staying here. Thank you!

    Good place for budget trip

Hotel is in five subway stations from Moscow Railway Terminal (Ploshchad Vosstaniya) - in two minutes walk from Ploshched Muzhestva station. It is a good choice for budget travellers. My room price was 2720 rubles per night. Room was clean and comfortable. Breakfast was tasty and diversified (included in room rate). Wi-Fi is free of charge but very slow.
