Rude Front Desk EmployeeNever in my life have I ever encountered the most rude, unpleasant female employee as I did at this hotel Onyang Hot Spring Hotel. (Friday, October 20th, 2017, at approximately 4:40 pm) My family and I decided to take a day trip to Onyang for hot springs on Oct 20th. We had originally planned to return to Seoul by early afternoon train. However, once we got to the station after the hot springs, we discovered that the early tickets were all sold out and we had no choice but to book the 9:40 pm train at the last minute. With a few hours left to spend in the town, we decided to rest at the hotel where we went earlier for hot springs. This employee literally had a frown on her face from the moment my family and I approached the Front Desk. She did not even offer a proper greeting, nor did she smile once during our entire encounter. Since we simply wanted to rest for a few hours before the train, I asked if they had a half day rate. She very rudely and bluntly responded that half day rates apply only for 11 am to 4 pm. We said that's fine and asked for a room and asked what room types she had available. Once again, she displayed a strong negative attitude acting as if she was annoyed with my questions (still with a frown on her face). She said they have regular beds and also Ondol beds. I said we will take Ondol and asked the rate. She responded by saying the rate is KW160,000 but she will give discount to KW90,000. (We all know the rate of KW160,000 is their published rate, and no discount was actually being offered) I started to fill out the registration card but just casually asked the staff if she can offer any more discount since we are only staying a few hours, and that I saw the online rates were also around KW90,000 range. All she had to say was "no" and I would've just completed the registration card and be done with it. Instead, to this question she very rudely snapped and "lectured" me by saying "then you need to book there directly! and we already gave you a 50% discount". By now, my family and I were very shocked and upset at her rude behavior and complete lack of customer service. We told her that she is not very friendly, and that she should not be "lecturing" her customers to book directly online (as we already know our options). My family and I are accustomed to only using luxury 5 star hotels when we travel globally, with top notch services. Due to no 5 star hotels in this city, we had no choice but to come to this local hotel. While we did not expect a 5 star hotel service from a local hotel, the least we expected (and deserved) is very basic manner, etiquette and very basic customer service, none of which this staff has portrayed. Rather, she showed the complete opposite behaviors. I am a firm believer that the Front Line employees give off the first impression of the hotel, which is why it's so important to have a positive person with a positive energy in these positions. Due to this staff's bad attitude and blunt rudeness, we had no desire to stay here this time, or ever again. We left the hotel and ended up booking at the hotel across the street, where the employee showed all the basic manners of a hotel staff working in the service industry, which we deserved as a customer. Due to the negative experience at this hotel because of this staff, she completely ruined our precious family trip which was pleasant up until this negative encounter. I am sure this is not the first time she has displayed this type of bad service, and it probably won't be her last. I strongly suggest that this employee is given a warning from the hotel, as well as proper training on customer service.

Winter rooms with no heatI was part of a group spending the night in this hotel. From the website, it looked really nice. We were all talking about the spa in the early morning. But for 4 of us, the rooms had no heat! Not fun in February. The night manager was particularly inflexible and uncommunicative. First we were told there were no other rooms. Then he, without telling the others, moved some to other rooms. I was the last one, huddled under extra covers - unfortunately, I caught a flu there. No spa for me the next morning. The manager apologized sincerely, but it was after I got ill and the young man said no other word to me.

business travelI travel for business to Asan, South Korea. Instead of travelling back and forth from Seoul, this hotel is a handy option - includes fitness, breakfast, laundry, wifi. Front desk staff speak english well and are very helpfull. lots of options for eating within walking distance. Plus added bonus of a pedestrian shopping area right next door. Pick a room in the tower building - more modern, clean.

Cost-effective perfect relaxation experience with mom.I was traveled with my Mom during the Korean Holidays. The facilities seem quite old but it was clean and just enough to take a rest. The bedding was pretty clean but the mattress was a little stiff and the pillow was not comfortable. Hot spring was the reason to select the place. It was pretty awesome for both of us, thirties daughter and sixties mom. The water was just good enough although we prefer sulfur spring. We had the spa every day. Considering the price, I am satisfied and I will definitely visit the hotel again.

Discrimination at Onyang Hot Spring HotelMy family and I came to the Onyang Hot Spring spa last Saturday afternoon. It was recommended to us as one of the oldest Hot spring spa and Hotel in the region. I waited in line as other customers were entering the spa. When it was our turn, I said that I wanted 4 entrance tickets for myself, my wife and my two daughters. The lady in charge looked at us and told us that we were not allowed to enter because we were foreigners. I thought that I misunderstood and I thought that she wanted to see some identification. I gave my Korean ARC (Alien registration card) as well as my Korean driver's license. She called her supervisor who came and told us that we were not allowed because we are foreigners. I couldn't believe what I just heard. I insisted but the lady told us that we could not enter the spa because we were foreigners. My youngest daughter asked me: " why are they doing that? Are they racist?".I told her that Korean people have been so nice and welcoming to us since we moved to Korea and I couldn't understand why we were discriminated against. This is the first time that we experience such discrimination in Korea since we first came to Korea in 2004. I later came back and asked to talk to the manager. He admitted a mistake and gave me his business card to contact him. When I contacted him, I was hoping for a formal and sincere apology and also an invitation to visit their hotel for me and their family. But instead I received an email that said that their staff overreacted because of COVD! They didn't want to admit that it is discrimination. I am sending this review today for my two daughters who were with me that day. I want to show them that we have to fight discrimination and that this type of behavior is unacceptable. I guess we won't experience the real Korean hospitality at the Onyang hot spring hotel.... Fortunately, Korea has many places where you won't be discriminated against. Simply avoid the Onyang Hot Spring Hotel!
