Hotel OK, but nothing else there!!We stayed at Oku Shiga Kogen hotel for 7 nights in January 2020. The hotel is OK - dated, staff are happy to help and fantastic access to the slopes. However, availability of reasonably priced dining options was a real problem. Both the Japanese and French restaurant in the hotel are ridiculously overpriced. The hotel next door has Italian and Japanese restaurants that are similarly overpriced, and all these expensive restaurants require reservations in advance which are not easy to get. As the hotel is so isolated there are no other eating options available - the hotel bar doesn't serve any food, the sports bar at the lift station is open some evenings and has the same selection of canteen food that all the restaurants on the mountain have, and is hardly an attractive place to have dinner, If you want something else to eat you need to travel to to Ichinose (which we did several times, only 15 mins on bus) the last bus back to Shiga Kogen is at 7.30pm and there are no taxis. You can buy pot noodles from the little shop in the hotel and we resorted to eating these on occasion - not what you want for your evening meal after a day's ski-ing. I wouldn't stay at this hotel again, although if you had half-board this might solve the problem - we didn't speak to anyone who had tried this.

Great snow - overpriced food and ski hireWe come to Japan a lot and this is out first time at Okushiga Kogen Hotel. In short, it's expensive for what you get. The ski hire for 5 days $300AUS. A meal at the Japanese for two will set you back $250AUS with no drinks. The French restaurant well you're looking at $300AUS for two people with a glass of wine. I don't mind paying for great food, service and wine but this is not what you get. I must say they have a nice western and Japanese breakfast and the lunch is a reasonable and proceed correctly. The lifesaver is the sports bar away from the hotel where you buy your lift tickets.

Excellent service, great holidayStayed here for 11 nights early jan 2020 for a ski holiday.. The snow was not awesome, but the service at this hotel made up for it in swathes... A great choice of dining options in house, with a great bar area around an open log fire... an unforgettable stay and would highly recommend to anyone travelling to Shiga Kogen

Lovely pet hotelI brought my dogs for a weekend stay during the winter. It was a very lovely stay. We stayed at the ground floor where they allow pets and there was a special back door for the dogs to go outdoors to play in the snow. It was a fun experience for us. Our hotel bedroom was also well-prepped for the arrival of our pets. The cages next to the mattresses were spacious for our dogs and they were clean, covered with enough pee pads on every corner. There were also extra pee pads provided on the side table. The staffs also left welcome treat bags for each dog in our bedroom. There were also empty pet bowls ready for use on the side table. I really appreciate the kind gesture the hotel prepared for our stay with the dogs. The hotel looked like a vintage log cottage, even the heater in our room was ancient. But we still enjoyed our stay. Beds were comfortable but the pillows were really small. Bathroom was super small too but I love the shampoo, it smelled good and made my hair soft. Breakfast buffet was not a large spread but had both Japanese and Western food. Scramble eggs, sausages, hash browns, miso soup, curry rice etc. They also had freshly squeezed orange juice available. Request for late checkout will only be met when payment is made. We had to pay extra charges for every hour of time requested and did so as we wanted to ski for a longer time. Ski area was walking distance and there was a free shuttle bus to take us to the ski lifts. Staffs were all polite.

Lovely, a little datedWe enjoyed a good five night stay in Okushiga Kogen Hotel. It is right at the end of the Okushiga Kogen resort so feels peaceful and secluded. However there is not much within walking distance in terms of restaurants and shops so you are quite confined to the hotel if you are not skiing. The staff were really friendly, the breakfast was great and ski rental was easy and you can ski right into the locker room so all very smooth and easy! We enjoyed the cosy bar area with open log fire in the evenings. Our main problem was food options on offer as there were only 2 restaurants in the hotel, both of which were very expensive and weren't a viable option for us every evening. It is one of the more expensive hotels in the area and the decor was slightly dated, however I would probably stay here again.
