Good 3 star Hotel for Business Travelers

I have stayed at the Oktyabrskaya Hotel twice (July 2006 and Feb 2007) on business. The hotel was chosen for be by the company I was visiting as it is close to their offices. After having lived in Russia for the last two years, I am never quite sure what to expect when I check into non-western brand name hotel, however the Oktyabrskaya was more than suitable for my needs. The hotel rooms are small but clean. Be aware that in the there is no AC (at least not in the room I had), making it hard to being in the room after 10AM in the summer. But, the hotel is located a ways outside of the city center so it is quiet enough to sleep with the windows open and traffic is manageable to get into downtown after 7 or 8pm if you would like to go out to dinner / bars. Very few options within walking distance unless you know where you are going and speak fair Russian. There is also a small bar open late on the 5th floor. One other note is that it does not have the problem of young unescorted females hanging out at the bar that many other larger hotels have. I guess it is far enough outside of the main part of town to avoid it. If you are looking for a place to stay within walking distance to local attractions, the Oktyabrskaya Hotel is not for you. However, if you need a quiet place to sleep and get some work done, it is a very reasonable place to stay.

    Comfy hotel

Very pleasant hotel. A bit of a schlep out of the centre of town but you could get the tram. The park next door to the hotel was really nice for reading a book and whiling away a few hours. Reception staff were very helpful when we were trying to book taxis and activities - they all spoke English to a greater or lesser extent. Rooms pleasant, good standard of furnishings etc, but quite small. No air-con which did make it a bit hot. Breakfast would have been nice except the restaurant was cold (they did have air con in there - and it was up too high) and so the cooked food, which had no hot plate or anything to keep it warm, was also stone cold! Cold fried eggs - not to my taste I am afraid! Lovely hotel though. Would recommend if you don't mind being a bit out of the centre of town.

Reliable spot away from the centre

Large hotel out of the centre with all the trimmings of a standard business hotel. The rooms were large but lacked Aircon which would really improve this place. The location isn´t ideal, but the park next door is charming and I guess being away form the centre will reduce the noise and other undesirables. There are little trams that take you to the centre - once you understand the system it is quite easy. There was breakfast but we weren´t too enamoured with it, it all came out at once, so unless you were up early it was cold. There were cold items in the buffet - we tended to stick to those. The staff were helpful, trying their best with our limited Russian and their less than brilliant english, but someone trying is always going to be better than a fluent grump. The price was reasonable, not a bargain though. Heat the breakfast and add aircon to get 5 stars

clean, bright, well appointed hotel w. knowlegeable staff

out of the way but taxi service is good. There are small shops for snacks, water [drinking local water is not recommended by the hotel,] fruit, soft and hard drink, some food items and toiletries within a few blocks. TV has BBC and Euro News. Did not see an English language newspaper in the 10 days we were there. Hotel breakfast is more than good. Neighborhood seems safe.

Decent but frustrating staff! Nobody speaks english!

Since Yekaterinburg was our third Russian city, we already figured that Russian people doesnt speak a leak of english. But when it comes to a Hotel is even worse. Putting that aside, the staff was always courteous and trying to serve as much possible and overcome the language barrier. The rooms are just like any other European 3-4 star hotel, small but very decent. They have laundry service which we needed desperately yesterday. The only bad side of this is that they knocked our door at 7am to give us back our clean clothes. Location is good, the bar is 24/7 i think. For a short stay is more than enough.
