This is a real russian hotelI feel the other reviews are pretty unfair to this hotel. Its a typical Russian hotel of the late Soviet period in whats an unglamourous typical Russian city! No frills nor fancies. Nor does it pretnd to be anything else. Lobby, reataurant & cafe bar are fine, functional and clean. Breakfast is good. Rooms alas are a bit dated & run-down albeit very clean. And more so, everything tv, fridge, fan , bathroom works. Staff were most pleasant and helpful less of the aloof attitude I found elsewhere in upper end places. As other reviewers have said approach with the right attitude and youll get a lot out of the experience. I stayed in a higher end hotel in Moscow .... and could have been anywhere between Alaska & Vladivostock. This was a grittier but far more enjoyable experience. If you want real russia warts & all ..... this is where to find it. Russia Lite is catered for in the Intertourist & Hotel VolgogradReal Russia

Most memorable hotel of my trip!As others have said, this hotel isn't perfect and modern, but it was one of my most enjoyable stays of the trip because of how Russian this place was. The staff were lovely, checked us in and registered our visas fast with no problems. Breakfast was simple but it was fresh and nicer than the buffet rubbish I'd had at more expensive hotels. Our room was the same suite as the one pictured a few reviews down, I enjoyed having all that room to spread out. Kitschy and probably too old looking for some, but comfortable and very clean. There wasn't much heating, but I prefered it to the overheated rooms we had experienced elsewhere. The temperature was comfortable, not boiling. I had no problems getting a comfortable sleep each night. The only hotel in our whole trip in Russia that actually had a kettle to make tea, which is a plus. The location of this hotel is fantastic, 5 minutes from the station, overlooking a gorgeous park, and a quick walk to the city centre with all it's shops and cafe's.

Would not recommend this hotel to friendsWhen we arrived our first impression was: its very run down. The second impression was the same The reception staff was friendly and spoke enough English. Outside it was around 30 degrees and we found out that our room had no fan or air conditioning. We asked for a room with air conditioning and for a small fee we got an upgrade. Our new room was an apartment. There was air conditioning yes, but it only blew some lukewarm air. Inside the hotel and rooms had been renovated in the 80s we think and since then nothing happened. Breakfast was ok, but nothing special. We wanted to leave some luggage on the last day and had to pay a small fee for it. The parrot in the hotel lobby was very nice and friendly. Although, surprisingly, we had good night rest, I will not recommend this hotel to friends.

You have to be ignoramus to rate this hotel as number 4Hey Trip Advisor. Are you serious? You have to risk you health if staying here. We booked this hotel two months in advance just for one night. Price was $88, but nobody know that this place is charging 25% for booking, so price goes to $107. The room condition was so terrible that we immediately run from here. Just look at my photos. I have no idea where people from New Zealand and Australia lived, but this place maybe good for out-and-out trumps only (again look at photos). This place has no remodeling for 36 years Shame on you Trip Advisor for even set this place as hotel. May say good words about service lady and manager of "hotel", both are very nice
