Great location if skiing to the door & value for money are priorities

Not long returned from a weeks stay at Le Front de Neige. We were on a budget and decided to stay at the FdN as it was pretty much the cheapest place where we could ski to the door. On both these points we couldn't fault it, although the ski room door was locked because there was too much snow on the roof above the entrance! The staff were extremely friendly and spoke enough English to get by (along with my own pigeon French). They offered a free bread delivery service from a baker in the village that was extremely good value. The room was well appointed with a hob, microwave, toaster & dishwasher. There was a TV but the remote control cost more from reception (which we decided to skip as we really weren't bothered about French television). Wireless at the time we visited in January 2012 cost an extortionate 5 Euro for 1 hour or 20 Euro for 24 hours!! Again, we decided to pass. Carpe diem, a bar in town, offered free wifi anyway but I was hoping to be able to use it in the hotel as a TV substitute. As mentioned in other reviews, the floors above are tiled so any furniture moved does screach and cause noise. I guess we must have been lucky with the guests above us being quite quiet as it didn't bother us too much. The "double bed" is one half sofa, one half pull out bed. Stuck together they form a double bed but it is not comfy - thankfully I was so tired from skiing I could have slept soundly on the floor. The hotel is less than a Km from the centre of Les Carroz, unfortunately it's almost vertically. We walked it twice but got the bus back up the hill. It is free and the staff at reception gave us all the info we needed - we felt the trade off of skiing to the door was worth it. All in all, if you are on a budget and want to ski to the door le FdN is about as good as you can get in Les Carroz. Just don't expect soundproof floors, free wifi or a real, comfy double bed.

    Mixed views

I stayed here in February with my 3 daughters; it was a bit of a last minute booking in order to join some friends who had already booked accommodation in Les Carroz. The room was OK and we did not really notice any noise from other apartments as mentioned in other reviews and it had everything you needed. The access to the slopes was great, exit the ski locker room, put your skis on and a 20 meter ski through the woods brought you to a nursery slope where you could ski across to the cable car. Coming back all you had to do was get the button lift back up to the top and ski back through to the apartments, very convenient. The down side was the parking and location in terms of access to the village. The car park is one level below the reception and we were in a room to floors up from this and there is no lift! It was hard work getting everything up to the room through all the snow. The other problem was that there wasnt sufficient parking and all the garage parking had been taken and with people leaving as we arrived it was bedlam. The Apartments may only be 1km from the village, but this had to be measured vertically! If you go via the road it was a good ½ hour walk and the bus only runs until 18.30, so if you want to go into town for dinner you have to accept a long walk or drive. We walked once, after that we drove. That is where the other problem was, there is a barrier blocking the access to the car park, great for security, but not so good when you want to get out and have not been given a fob to control the barrier. We asked at reception for a fob, but were told they had all been given out. When I questioned how I was going to get my car out the receptionist suddenly lost his command of English. This turned out to be very inconvenient and was a major downside; every guest needs to be given a barrier fob. Therefore I have mixed views about the apartments, the upside was that we only paid circa £750 for the week and our friends had paid nearly £2400 (luxury apartments in the village), so I felt that I achieved value for money, but the parking and access to the village was a problem. If you are going to stay here you need to consider above comments.

    Left after few days

We arrived here on 26th December 2015. After waiting for nearly an hour. The lady receptionist who could on,y speak French was so rude and unhelpful. She made a comment which the French people laughed so unprofessional. There was a lovely French lady who was standing next to us. She translated everything. There were 7 of us mixed company we were told room round back we went out of reception could not locate room then realised she meant room was still in building. We went to out floor to find out there were only 6 beds. We went back down and then had to wait a further half hour to be given another apartment with 7 beds 3 to sleep in lounge not appropriate. The receptionist only worked certain hours not so any questions we were stuck. We raised this with our tour operator and we moved to Flaine another village and upgraded to a better more appropiate appartments thank god is all I can say.

    Great location, basic accomodation

Ideal location for ski-in/ski-out, but the accommodation was basic, the receptionist was only part time & we had a young group of lads staying in the room above that made a fair bit of noise until early hours of morning.

    Clean, Functional, VFM

My partner and I were looking for something last minute with ski-in, ski-out and the ability to meet with friends also dispersed around Carroz. Arrived courtesy of CrystalSki from Geneva following a really straight forward transfer. On arrival, we were greeted by a very pleasant and friendly blonde receptionist ; she explained the usual details of shops, amenities, Ski lockers etc and also the expectation of how the apartment should be cleaned on departure - all fair enough. The apartment was dated, but it had everything required and was clean and tidy. It was ideal for us, as a couple, but I suspect could be a bit claustrophobic with 2 adults and 2 children( I wouldn't advise 4 adults, unless you're very friendly!). Wi-Fi was 15 and was ideal. We watched some movies streamed through of Netflix without buffering onto our tablet. You have to pay for a TV(all in French) But you don't need it with Wi-Fi. Although the snow was limited on the day of arrival it was good from day 3 onwards. Ski-out was about a 60m walk through some trees and then ski down a blue (Figaro) to the TeleCabin. Return was via a lovely blue finishing on a red(Timalets) - it was then a skis on the shoulder 100m walk to the apartment. Not quite ski-out, ski-in - but not an issue either. The Front de Neige is probably the highest apartments in Carroz and the walk down to Carroz is pleasant, but remember you have the walk back up! My partner enjoyed the walk back of an evening, but she was not perhaps taking as much advantage of the local beers as I may have been!! Apart from the above, I can't really complain. We got what we paid for; clean, functional apartment (Great shower! and a bath) and easy access for the slopes.
