Stayed there twiceI stayed in this hotel twice, the first time they gave me a room in the same building, the rooms are ok but there is no elevators so it was hard to get my luggage up and it's expensive for nothing. The second time they gave me a room on the separate building and the rooms are much better but again expensive. The Swiss are not really service oriented they could easily tell you it's not available. The internet is not reliable also in this hotel

A place to stay .... nice breakfastI arrived early and got my room and an upgrade .... spacious and clean. Nice people at checking and good location when you have business in Uster. Clean room, very good shower. See you next time. Did not have dinner there, but enjoyed the breakfast.

Worth it for the foodI stayed at the Ochsen from 25/6/19 to 27/6/19. I was travelling on business and for some unknown reason the standard down town hotels were 3 times as expensive as normal so the Ochsen made a great commutable alternative at a sensible price (bear in mind this is Switzerland so not cheap by world standards). The hotel is charming and situated not far from a river running through the middle of town and near an impressive looking church with an hourly chime (note the hour is chimed twice once in a high pitch and once in a low pitch). The people at the hotel are very welcoming and highly professional yet relaxed. The hotel is an older building and the rooms (or at least room 26) are not air conditioned. Typically this would not be an issue but my stay was in the middle of the most intense heatwave in Europe this year with daily peak temps of 36 degrees C. This meant the room was very warm at night - no covers please! The room is basic but spotlessly clean. The beds are very comfortable - firm which is my preference. A huge plus (and a surprise) was the quality of the shower - it was turbo charged. It certainly has plenty of hot water pressure although during my vey warm stay high pressure cold water was the order of the day for me. The best feature of this hotel is however definitely the restaurant. The quality of the food is excellent. Over two days I had artichoke ravioli, calf's liver and giant pork chop with sage. All beautifully prepared. The beer was also very nice and served ice cold which was very welcome after a long day of work and a very hot commute. So, proximity to station, plenty of places to stroll at night, great food and nice people makes this a winner for me. With more time I would have liked to visit the local lake - got near it on night one and even found open grazing where there were cows with bells - feel like I have had a full swiss experience.

Its OKStayed at this hotel for a few days on business, location is near to the railway station (5 min walk if that) Staff friendly and helpful, as it has a restaurant food in the evening is very good, breakfasts in the morning is a simple affair with a standard continental complement of breads, cereals, fruit and sliced meat. Arrived at the start of a unusually hot spell and being at the top floor front of the building meant the room was in the full glare of the sun all day with no AC the room became stiffing to the point of uncomfortable, opening the window did not do much as there was no airflow unless you opened the door as well. With the window open you do get a lot of road noise. A fan was supplied upon request. My room was basic in comparison to other hotels I have stayed at, desk, flat screen TV, Wardrobe, with an adjoining shower room toilet. There are no amenities in the room so if you want a drink you have to go down stairs or out to one of the nearby bars. As mentioned by others there is a church in close proximity that does have hourly chimes. stairs up to it and a steakhouse if you walk up the other stairs nearby.
