    Heaven on Earth

If "my happy place" was an actual location, Ochiairou is it. From the soul-mending natural surroundings, to sumptuous meals artfully and lovingly prepared, to rejuvenating hot springs, all accentuated by the warmth of the staff and their sublime attention to detail. Initially I came back to Ochiairou to experience it and the surrounding Yugashima in each of the seasons. Now, I return for a spiritual re-set, grounding bodymindsoul in preparation for the year ahead. Ochiairou is indeed a precious place.

    Amazing experience

Really lovely and relaxing experience into Traditional Japanese living. Beautiful room, very nice private onsen. Private dinner for the 2 of us in kimono:) Highly recommend this unique experience! Worth to walk around as well and have a local beer at the garden cafe ( little cafe with hammocks) above the river.

    Good for the soul

One of the other reviewers said it perfectly: "If 'my happy place' was an actual location, Ochiairou is it. From the soul-mending natural surroundings, to sumptuous meals artfully and lovingly prepared, to rejuvenating hot springs, all accentuated by the warmth of the staff and their sublime attention to detail." I feel exactly the same way. The sound of the river at night was so relaxing. And because of the private rental rotenburo (outdoor bath), which I was too late to book, I basically had the larger baths mostly to myself since everyone else was taking turns in the private bath. Breakfast was more than most of our group could eat, though I managed to eat every last bite. I hope to go back. I would live there if I could!

Probably the best Onsen in Izu

A sophisticated authentic Onsen. I especially enjoyed their Lobby which is located in the center, where you can enjoy good wine, Japanese whisky and many other beverages with some snacks near a cozy fireplace. Both dinner and breakfast were just amazing. Japanese delicate cuisine and beautiful presentation. Good portion for adults. Furnitures and items in the room are mix style of traditional and modern. Fresh coffee beans and hand-drip machine in each room, perfect for morning. Last but most importantly, their Onsen and Sauna are breathtaking. You can hear beautiful sound of the river, feel comfortable breeze and watch stars in the evening. Clean towels and natural skin care products that anyone can use. I would recommend to participate Ochiairou tour if you have time. Their history is quite amazing and you will get to know how prestigious this Onsen is.

    Indeed A Lovely Ryokan

The bus from bus stop 5 at Shuzenji JR Stn dropped us right in front of the ryokan. As it was too early to check-in, we took a walk along the river n had coffee n pancakes at a cafe by bridge. We also took a walk around the garden which was quite lovely. The large room we had overlooks the garden n had separate sleeping n rest areas. It was a Japanese style futon room but mattress was a western style 8 thick spring mattress which was quite comfortable. Dinner was very well presented n excellent. The last dish of yuba based noodles was prepared in our private dining room and was very tasty. We also had an additional order of wagyu beef which was cooked in red wine sauce; very tasty but would have preferred simply grilled salt n pepper. Breakfast was one of the best we had in the many ryokans we visited. After check out at 1000 we were taken on a conducted tour to view the richly decorated rooms with elaborate wood motifs. An expensive but worthwhile experience.
