  Good hotel in a bad location

  Akzent hotel is a strictly non smoking budget hotel located nearby Oberhausen central train station. Be warned that once you reach the station by train, you should take the exit to Hansa str. and then turn left to Buschhausener str. The hotel information says it's within 800m walking distance from the station but in reality you have to walk 15 min. to reach. The rooms are spacious and there is nothing fancy. It's a typical budget hotel with enough amenities. The free internet connection is okay like almost all hotels in Germany but connectivity is not persistent. There is a dedicated smoking room at 4th floor where guests can use. The area around the hotel doesn't offer anything special and is very boring. If one wants to go to the CentrO mall and Arena Oberhausen, they need to get a taxi which would cost 15 each way min. My room didn't include breakfast so I cannot comments on it. The beds are comfortable but pillows were too soft for me. There is a REWE supermarket 15 min away and a SPAR supermarket in a gas station nearby. There is an Indian restaurant round the corner which I didn't use but looks like a good one. In general, it's a good hotel located in an area not offering anything special. The fine of smoking inside the rooms is 200 and they will ask you to sign a paper acknowledging it during check-in.

  Weekend hotel

  The hotel was ok, although I have to admit its slightly on expensive side for what has been offered. We booked it for Easter weekend so it might explain. We had family room with kitchenette which did not have anything there. We had to ask for plates, etc and whilst we did get it without trouble we ended up not having breakfast in the room as there was no cooking stove. The area is pretty dull but its quite close to Centro and the park if you have a car. The hotel offers free parking. Whilst we did have pretty specious family room I would probably choose a different hotel with kids as the hotel located just on the cross-road of pretty busy streets which makes it noisy at night and not super kids friendly. The staff was helpful though and if you need family room it might be an option.

  Static Roots

  We stayed in the Akzent Hotel while attending the Static Roots music festival .We stayed from 13 to 17 of July .Hotel is a ten minute walk from the train station and same from venue of the festival which was great .I loved this hotel ,the little touches like the snacks left on your pillows each morning and the fact that you could enter from the lift outside once you were registered as a guest and had a key .The shower in the bathroom was brilliant and breakfast was great with a great variety.The staff were so friendly and helpful .Downside was it was on a busy road but sure you only had to be careful crossing over .I heard no noise from the road at night .Getting a train to anywhere was so easy so didnt take taxis anywhere ,train to centro couldnt be easier .We will be back for Static roots next year and will use same hotel .

  Ok

  When I arrived the room was cold. But then everything was ok. Silent. Comfortable. Kind people. Clean. I did not have breakfast so I dont know about it. I Think is a good hotel of you dont want in the center of the town.

  Late booking, couldn't fault

  At busy junction. Parking further up road opposite fuel station. Booked twin room, given double room, returned to reception and after some muttering and grunting from reception and some comment about a waltz? were issued a different key. This opened a suite with two separate bedrooms that could accommodate 6 persons in all, a private dining room and a huge bathroom with bath! It would have been discourteous to not avail myself of this provision. My room overlooked tranquil rear of establishment where there were only net curtains. I couldn't tell till the morning whether anyone could see in from the outside. It was the route for the fire escape. My companion's room faced busy junction but ample supply of ear-plugs provided in the room. Clean, spacious, friendly, breakfast standard German fare. Perfect half way overnight stop for those driving from Berlin to Calais for channel ferry.
