    Afternoon Tea

Booked afternoon tea for four but unfortunately due to tier two restrictions we could not attend. They hotel kindly offered to do it as a take away with the Prosecco. However, we were extremely disappointed with what we got. We were given sandwiches with tough beef, very strange tasting ham or cheese we couldnt tell what it was, bog standard tuna and one decent salmon sandwich. The 4 macaroons were the size Id a two pence coin. The scones were served with a small amount of cream and, what we believe to be, a cranberry and five spice type chutney- no jam! Quite disgusting. The cake seemed to taste if coffee, fruit and walnut which again is an acquired taste. Our take away resembled nothing like the teas going out to customers eating in. We were given no takeaway tea nor coffee sachets. I had to ask for the Prosecco and was given an open bottle. They poured a glass out and gave us the rest covered in cling film. We drove 30 mins each way for this so by the time we got home our Prosecco had lost its fizz!! When I complained about the tightness of removing a glass they kept us waiting nearly half an hour to say they would not give us a full bottle and in fact by removing one glass there were still 5 left in the bottle; there really wasnt. In a time where these establishments need business there service was absolutely dreadful and shocking. This afternoon tea was by far the worst Ive ever had. I will not be recommending this place for anything.

    Average at best

My wife and I stayed one night as a 40th birthday surprise. Beauiful building and surroundings. Check in was fairly easy and the hotel had social distancing to a tee with a one way system throughout. The staff were excellent. Worked hard and couldn't do enough to help and advise in the current climate. Our room was quite large but also quite cold. The bed wasnt great either and the shower took a while to get hot and hardly had any pressure. The bar was great although there didnt seem to be enough staff on. Evening meal was disappointing. Wasnt really much to choose from and quite pretentious if anything, also with supplements on certain foods . The wine was very overpriced. The bar area in the evening was lovely though. Great atmosphere but again, hardly any staff working. They all seemed to be in the dining area. We had to leave early the next morning at 7:30 and the website states that breakfast would be served from 7:00am but when we arrived we were told that breakfast starts at 8:00, so maybe that needs stating on the website. An average stay.

    Afternoon Tea

I booked for afternoon tea as a surprise Christmas time outing for my wife & I - we had not visited Nunsmere before. Without a doubt, located in a stunning setting with its own parkland and lake, however this is really a tired hotel from the 1900s trying to keep up with the expectations of 2020...watch those potholes on the drive - there are lots of them! The afternoon tea was served in the lounge, perhaps the first thing we noticed was that there no use of china - an essential ingredient of afternoon tea - especially when served in a "top hotel". This shocked us as it affected our enjoyment of the otherwise very good food: Sandwiches - 4 small 'soldiers' each; lovely fresh bread & tasty fillings; Scones - very tasty - perfectly baked, served with clotted cream & cranberry chutney - frankly this would have been far better served with a traditional jam and saving the cranberry for the turkey! Cakes - They were all very good - especially the carrot & walnut All served with tea/coffee - but we were not offered refills (although we could have asked) All Covid precautions were well covered, with tables well spaced, good procedures, notices, one way system and reassuring staff. Priced at £20.50 per person - but special deal obtained via "Travelzoo"

    Christmas Break

I have just returned from a two night Christmas break at Nunsmere Hall. All I can say is that it was the most wonderful experience. The staff were without exception caring and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble and they really made the visit special for us all. All the rooms were comfortable and clean. Yes it is true that some rooms need a little loving care and attention but to be absolutely honest the ambience was wonderful and I think would be the worse if the rooms were brought up to typical hotel standards, all the same and corporate and boring. The quality of food was without exception exceptional. The evening meal on Christmas Eve was delicious in every respect and Christmas dinner was beautifully presented and absolutely delicious. As you see I cannot praise this place too much and I would like to thank the management and staff who were helpful both in arranging our stay and during our time with them.

Another outstanding stay at Nunsmere Hall

We have Stayed many times at Nunsmere Hall and I have to say it just gets better. The welcome at the desk is friendly and efficient. Rooms are spectacular. Beds sooo comfy. Nespresso coffee machines in room They are so Covid aware and have the procedures worked out like clockwork. All the staff sing from the same hymn book on everything You can have drinks and nibbles in the bar before going for dinner. I was extremely impressed at how they accommodated my gluten free diet ! They created very imaginative and tasty alternatives. Such a joy ! All the staff are super friendly and go out of their way to help the guests. Breakfast in the room was delivered at exactly the time that we ordered it for. I just cant fault this hotel , its staff and the standard of food. We will be back. Well done Nunsmere !!! Compliments to the chef on providing interesting gluten free alternatives !
