AmazingNumazu Club is in a quiet town famous for its port in Shizuoka and fish market. To get to the hotel we needed to take a taxi, about 10 minutes and were greeted at the gate by the receptionist. Through the garden, past the tea house and into the main building. A space which is as humble as stunning. Guided to our room on the first floor we could appreciate the architecture that framed views of the old Japanese house and forest. The apartment was clean, simple and beautifully presented. Outside was a large Japanese private bath, inside shower room, kitchenette. High quality materials throughout. We booked the communal hot spring for private use. This was somewhat confusing as there wasn't a door to the changing area and it felt as though someone may come in. If you book it privately, men and women can share, we used the larger male bathing area. There is an option to have dinner at the hotel in the old house but we opted to take the short walk to the port where there are plenty of sushi restaurants. It is better to arrive at the hotel early as many restaurants close early. The town is very quiet and the people are friendly, food is inexpensive. After a good nights sleep, we checked out at noon. The receptionist kindly gave us a tour of the Japanese house and told us about it's history before we left. It was fascinating to be able to enter such a building. I would definitely stay at Numazu Club again. It may be a little pricey, but well worth it and such a relaxing experience.

Interesting experiencePictures suggest a view of Mount Fuji. But there isn't. However the staff were very friendly and although they had limited English they were helpful. Raw fish for dinner and breakfast was challenging for this meat eater but I survived and actually enjoyed the experience.

Auberge and SpaNumazu-club is neither Japanese ryokan nor hotel. This is an auberge with spa in Japanese Garden. The modern guest room facing to the pond of the country yard is well designed in flavor of wood. The room of second floor is perfectly western style, but I'd like to recommend to stay at the first floor's room with tatami-room for bed room. You can enjoy a dinner in the old original Japanese housings surrounded by Japanese garden in natural style. Food is superb! After dining, you can see whole of the Japanese housing including the room used for "SHOGI" master game. It takes only ten minutes walks to Fish Market in where you can see many Sushi bars. The best one is "Futaba-sushi" , if you choose a set of sushi from menu the price is reasonable and not "cheap and nasty".
