  One night only.

  On our way to Oslo, we decided to stop overnight in Notodden and this hotel was the only option. Beds were OK, but the rest of the furniture was ready for the skip. Only one wobbly nightstand, mismatched table and writing desk and only one chair full of holes and dirt. The elevator screamed for mercy and barely made it to the 3.rd floor. Maybe the owners should invest in some maintenance. Breakfast was indeed very good, apparently it was run by a different company and had every thing you would expect from a Norwegian breakfast buffet.

  Surivable, but you dont go here for the hotell experience

  This is one of those hotels you choose just to have a bed. The room was small with two beds and a newer bathroom. Clean, however not very modern or nice. The lobby area is more like a bar and the two staffers i have talked to have a "couldnt care less" attitude. Breakfast was a sad thing as well with very little and bad food. Price was to much compared to what you get offerd. Brattrein Hotell just on the outskirts of town looks quite better.

  Great Location and games in lobby

  This hotel is right in the center of downtown Notodden which is great if you are on foot and want to be able to walk to shops and restaurants. This is the strongest selling point of Notodden Hotel. The first thing I noticed upon check in(besides a moldy smell) was the slow check in and the President Trump meeting room complete with pictures. The "politicized" meeting room was a big turn off for me and I am sure it will be for many other customers. The other thing I noticed was a set of drums, piano, pingpong table, chess board, big screen TV with large PA speakers and a treadmill down in the lobby area, which also has a bar. The chairs are cozy and there is plenty to do in the lobby. The rooms varied from just okay to poor with low to no ventilation and inconsistent. My bathroom had no heated floors, although it did at one time. My colleague next door had heated floors and his room looked the same but didn't smell like mold as mine did. I had two beds in my room. One was too soft to sleep on and I am not a big or heavy guy. The bed next to the soft one was great. Rooms have a TV, desk and big windows that are nice and can be opened which is a huge plus because you need to air the room out after using the bathroom. The breakfast is pretty lame by Norwegian standards but pretty nice for American standards. We had to ask for them to put out butter every day so we could butter the bread but then it was hard as a rock. Yet they keep a pile of tube food un chilled in a basket. Lets just say Kaviar does not taste good when cooled and heated every day. The refrigerator that houses orange juice and yogurt has a strong smell of a musty moldy basement when you open the door. There are eggs with bacon on top available as well as hard boiled eggs. There is bread and an assortment of cheeses and meats. It's kind of a DIY breakfast. Locate you cutlery and plates and bring to the table. The coffee is watery, there were no to go cups and there is no Espresso available. I would say if you need a room that may or may not be good, stay here but keep your expectations low. The staff is friendly and the lobby is fun, especially if you have someone to play chess or ping pong. If you are a drummer you can practice in the lobby! I give this one 2.5 stars, especially for the higher price.

  Stay away from this hotel

  I planned to stay the night. The staff was friendly and helpful. The room (and the extra room they offered) however was horrible. It was not properly cleaned, there was 'snus' in the garbage bin, and the fire extinguisher was not properly controlled (no pressure, out of order). Worst of all, however, was the rest of bugs (shells or something) found several places under the wall to wall carpet. I demanded a refund and left the hotel. Again, the staff was helpful, but their professionalism does not make up for the horrible rooms.

  Ok

  A bit worn but centrally located and the man at the desk was nice and helpful. The room was clean and the furnishing ok but a bit dated. The breakfast included bacon and eggs as well as some other alternatives.
