Quick pre lockdown breakA delightful comfortable hotel in private picturesque situation. Service was slightly curtailed by Covid 19 rules but we felt very safe and would thoroughly recommend a visit once rules allow again. Delicious high quality food with menu offering a special every evening so no need to always choose off the regular menu.

Excellent foodWe took advantage of one of the deals on offer and stayed in a suite. The room was not as spacious as I would imagine a suite to be, but still very comfortable and stunning views. The food was excellent and all the staff were friendly and courteous. The whole hotel, but especially the restaurant felt very secure and I was very comfortable eating there. I did feel that the room lacked all the little luxuries I would normally expect from this standard of hotel. The tea and coffee selection was very basic, I would have expected ground coffee or a coffee machine, hot chocolate, biscuits etc. I understand that COVID has had a big impact on what can be put in guest rooms and when I asked for peppermint tea it was quickly provided, thank you. I also missed the extra toiletries which I have come to expect from this standard of hotel. I will look forward to visiting again, if and when we ever get back to pre COVID normality.

Fantastic Country Hotel & Spa - Covid SafeWe stayed at Northcote Manor in North Devon a few days ago for 4 nights. This was our second stay at the Hotel. From the time we were there to the time we left the staff were absolutely fantastic. Their warm and friendly greetings each day and amazing service really made our stay very, very enjoyable. The team went out of their way to help you in any way they can. Every evening the food for dinner was incredible. The gourmet meal that we had one evening was one of the highlights of our trip and the food is on-par with a Michelin restaurant. The hotel have taken Covid-19 precautions and safety VERY seriously. The tables for dinner and breakfast were very spaced out and exceeded the 2metre minimum distance. All staff wore both masks and visors and the dining and breakfast rooms were cleaned and sterilised after every dinner setting each evening as we saw them doing this after everyone had finished their meals for the evening. The SPA staff were a delight and we felt very safe in the SPA. Again all precautions were taken to ensure that we were protected as much as we can be. The pool could be booked for one household only at a time, so that ensured that there was no mixing with other households whilst you swam. Basically you had the pool and jacuzzi to yourself for 45 minutes. All in all a fantastic trip, and we will definitely be staying again at some point in the future. We would also like to especially thank the staff that looked after us during our stay and our thanks go out to Richie, Simon and all the team, all of whom were a delight to speak to and with helping us if we needed anything. Nothing was too much for any of them.

Christmas 2020Our third Christmas at Northcote, but in this time of Covid, if we had not known how well the place is run, we would have stayed home. No surprise however that all the necessary mask-wearing, hanitising, distancing and cleaning was in full force and effect. And during mealtimes my ventilation fuss-potting was well catered for with an open window and the wood-stoves. So one way and another we felt completely safe. Other than these Covid oddities, things were pretty much as before. No buffet of course, but we did not lack for food and drink, neither in quantity nor quality. The service was impeccable as usual, and it's very noticeable that the staff clearly enjoy their jobs, giving it the feel of a family business. As in previous years, we enjoyed the ancient building with its creaky stairs and the antique furniture in the rooms. And the huge comfortable bed, with what we call proper bedding, sheets, blankets. Plus the large bath and endless hot water. At mealtimes, the quality table-cloths, napery, the table decorations and the superb food; really the variety and the quality is consistently first rate. As a meat enthusiast, the ruby beef and the pork belly were two beautifully cooked standouts. Even the cakes come out of the kitchen, no buying stuff in for reheating. The only thing that's bought in is the croissants. The breakfasts are as good as the dinners, with perfectly timed eggs and fried bread light as a feather. Between mealtimes - and there is a lot of serious eating to fit in - my wife enjoyed a swim in the spa, and dodging the showers on Christmas day we walked to Barrington in the morning, and after lunch we walked down the wooded drive to the Portsmouth Arms and sat for an hour on the station platform, enjoying the view watching the trains not passing. On Boxing day we went to Appledore, quaint old town, if the weather had been better we could have gone to Instow for a walk on the beach. One way and another it's hard to think of a better way to spend Christmas, we already booked for next year. They also do a great New Year, this year what with Tier this n' that, they may even have vacancies. Cannot recommend this place too highly, do give it a try.

Little gemEnjoyed a fab 2 day break here, nice and relaxing, quiet and peaceful location. Food was amazing, couldn't fault it at all. Staff are lovely and friendly. Spa facilities great. Some rooms need attention, but this all adds to the ambiance. Nice grounds to walk in and some lovely views over the countryside. Will definitely return.
