    Lovely traditional ryokan

Traditional ryokan, worth the effort to book this small inn @ annunpuri if you wish to have a short getaway from the niseko crowd and noise. Not easy to book it, as reservations not online nor immediate. Payment to be made in full for a confirmed reservation. Reception and staff not effectively bilingual, but they do try their hardest. As non Japanese I feel almost an intrusion of their Japanese system and culture the moment I enter, boots and shoes to be shed even before check in. For skiers and snowboarders, sad news. The dry room is just a room with old ski hangars. No individual lockers no ski valet or concierge. And of course no gear to the rooms if we are even to leave our shoes at the door/shoe rack. Lounge and fireplace (fire starts at 5pm) cozy when weather isnt too cold outside. Rooms are nice, clean and if it gets too warm, we can open windows for some fresh air. Best part of the room, personal massage chair and the full set of lotions and pajamas! No coin laundry here so every bit of yukata and pajamas help! Onsen in room seemed to have a lot of dirt floating and needs cleaning as the onsen on the ground floor didnt have the same amount of floating particles. They do have a nice bar and free flow alcohol after 8pm. Remaining day free flow is to the tea, wine and juice. Lovely marshmallow toasting by the fire fr 5pm. Steamed Potatoes with butter also fr 5pm for the less sweet toothed. Housekeeping was tardy first few days and forgot to leave pajamas. Got better later the stay. Good place to chill out for few days. Room and half board, kaiseki breakfast and dinner was good til 3rd day. Got bit tired after the 3rd day. Kids got kids meal sorted and was wonderful. The teppanyaki dinner option was worth every cent upgrade. King crab, beef, snapper, all super fresh and wonderfully prepared. Not oversauced or fancy show, focus on the quality of the food. They have only 1 teppanyaki room, so book in advance.

    The Perfect Escape

Stayed here with my two daughters in a western/Japanese style room with private rotenburo. Couldnt have been more perfect. All meals served in communal room or private rooms - great to have the variety. Magical shared spaces and first class shared onsen baths. Highly recommended.

    Perfect stay in Niseko (non-skiers)

Great dinner with free selection of sake and other drinks. Interesting concept to have unlimited drinks and snacks at the lounge. Overall only 25 rooms make it very peaceful and far from the type of crowded tourist Onsen places. There is also a good hifi system at the Lounge but unfortunately we cannot select our own songs. The Onsen itself is a perfect once in a lifetime mix of outdoor pool with falling snow that melts on the tongue.

Relaxing experience close to the slopes of Niseko

We stayed at this ryokan while skiing for five days at Niseko and had a wonderfully relaxing experience away from the hustle and bustle of the Grand Hirafu base. The inn provides a shuttle bus service three times a day on a fixed schedule to and from all of the Niseko United bases. Transit time was 20-40 minutes depending on the stops. It is slightly inconvenient having to stick with the inns fixed schedule, but the experience we had staying at Moku No Sho made the inconvenience worthwhile. We had two separate vacationstime on the slopes, and time enjoying a Japanese inn. Our room was very comfortable and modern with Western style beds and seating. We had a room with a private, outdoor onsen which was a wonderful way to relax after a day on the slopes. The restaurant (where breakfasts and dinners were included in the room rate) consists of a series of private rooms where we were served traditional Japanese breakfasts and kaiseki dinners (while seated at a Western-style table with chairs). The food quality and variety were excellent. A couple of nights, we upgraded to the teppanyaki grill which was also excellent. One of the highlights was the lounge area where we enjoyed pre- and post-dinner drinks relaxing around a fireplace listening to well selected jazz and/or rock music. Communicating in English was occasionally tricky, but we found one staff member who was reasonably fluent and could help us when needed. All told, this was a wonderful experience.

    Worst Service from Japanese Ryokan

Today I have the worst service and experience from Moko No Sho. First of all, I have to complain the waitress serving the dinner. The waitress comes in and out slamming the door and then puts the dishes loudly on the table. Then nothing is said at all except finish? and at the end of meal Drinks?. The waitress from the start to end comes in serving with the very unhappy face on her. Never, in my 15 years staying in Japan ryokan and onsen did I get this kind of bad service. And the worst part, is taking away my sons dish without asking? I have to say excuse me in Japanese to get her attention. I will never come to Niseko and Moko No Sho from Tsuruga group ever again! 0/10. Bad service especially gives the customer the bad face and like you did something bad. I really dont understand why the reviewers give it high score reviews when it doesnt meet the basic ryokan onsen and service standard.
