Out of German handsWe visited Niederrheinischerhof as we have done so many times before but this time was different. It was a Sunday evening and there were no customers, only the staff sitting around a table on the terrace. We chose a table and noticed from the menu's that the name had changed to Alisano Restaurant. We ordered and saw that there was no pork on the menu, no medalions or schnitzels. The serving staff, one woman, attended by a young man as observer, served us. The prices were increased and there was no ambiance because of a lack of customers. We paid our bills and left, I don't think we'll be going back and I'll be surprised if they remain in business.

Overnight stayClean and pleasant, nice bar. Easy location to find as on a main road, free parking. Very busy restaurant but great waiting staff. Would book again for a quick visit. Some rooms were like suites but others were a little smaller.

Watch out!Don't give your card details in advance - if you pay with cash they'll still take the money from your card. Make sure you get everything in writing - told me over the phone breakfast was included but when we arrived we had to pay for it. Make sure you let the manager know you speak german as well as he does OR BETTER. Still waiting for a refund on my card after nearly a month, despite numerous emails and 'phone calls. Krefeld is a lovely town and MOST of the people are very friendly. However, I will NEVER come back to this hotel. It was damp, musty and cold. Having spent most of my life in germany, this hotel is not a fair representative for the norm.

Be warned if you book this hotelBooked a room through booking.com that was no fee cancel, because of delays on the ferry crossing I was not going to arrive before 23:00 and notified them through the booking app. I got a phone call from the hotel to tell me they would hold the room if I emailed them card details, I could then phone and get access codes as no one would be in reception. This I did and then drove to the hotel in the early hours of the morning, no one would answer the phone to give me the door entry code or code to the key safe so I left and notified them by email that I could not get access and had left. Two weeks later they are attempting to take the money from my card and have the audacity to say they are entitled to do so. With the Amazon depot at Krefeld a lot of drivers are looking for reliable accommodation after they have dropped their freight,. Take note all you drivers that this is one to avoid

Never Again! We booked this hotel by phone direct and were told breakfast was included; when we arrived we were told we would have to pay extra. The manager said we must have misunderstood what he said on the phone (his english is good) but, obviously, he was unaware that my husband is half-german and has been speaking the language fluently since he was a child! After much arguing he agreed to waive the charge but we 'ate out' anyway as it left a bitter taste (no pun intended) and everytime we saw him he tried to justify why charges were made for breakfast and how we must have misunderstood. They asked for our card details over the phone to secure the booking although we were paying in cash. On arrival we paid in full, only to find out, on our return to the UK, that they had deducted the amount from our card. We are still awaiting a refund (a month later!). Car parking is available and the manager agreed over the phone that this was free. He also tried to charge for this on arrival. The rooms could have been pleasant and were spacious enough but had a damp/musty smell. The stairs were on the steep side and whilst we had no problems, someone less steady on their feet may have found them difficult and clients should be made aware of this at the time of booking.
