  Tired...

  Staff were friendly enough but the best way to sum up the place was it was very tired. When you walk into the reception / dining room the carpet is frankly filthy with stains. Its clearly the owners project and hes passionate about it but stepping g back and having a look would help a lot. When looking at the carpet I then looked at the skirting boards that were again filthy, this always makes me think if this what the owners are happy to be seen whats going on where you cant see... saying this we had dinner in the restaurant and the chef clearly took pride in what he was doing and I have no doubts about the cleanliness in the kitchen. Our room similarly lacked cleanliness, my wife was tempted to write clean me in the dust on the window shades. A shame as the place was one upon a time very nice.

  Lovely break

  We liked our room and the dinner was amazing. Outstanding cocktails. Suspect they were short staffed ie next day told breakfast in house not available so went to a cafe. The stay was to be the highlight of our trip.

  For the love of dogs

  Last minute changes to our holiday meant I had to find somewhere to stay in New Plymouth - that took dogs!. Finding the Nice Hotel was a dream. This is a comfortable Hotel, providing everything you need for a few nights stay (or I am hoping longer in the future) while also oozing with character and charm. However, the thing that stood it apart is their love of dogs - we were (all four of us) made to feel very welcome. Thank you

  Needs an attitude remodel

  We have stayed here in the past but usually when we travel to New Plymouth, we stay at King and Queen. We decided on a change of scenery and came to the Nice Hotel. We'll be going back to the King and Queen. Why? Because the staff here confuse arrogance with sophistication. The room was clean, comfortable and spacious enough. But who needs staff who put on airs?

  Dining at the nice hotel

  We have been going to the nice hotel for many years and have had a fabulous time, great venue, atmosphere and food. But unfortunately this has now slipped back immensely with the staff unable or not trained to cater for the clientele. The food was good but the service abysmal, with us constantly having to get up off our seats to find a waitress that would serve us. We even suggested to one waitress that if she gave us here cell phone number that we could text her our orders, definitely not something you would expect from a fine dining restaurant. The nice hotel has a lovely covered outdoor dining area out back but this area has a yellow Perspex wall that is illuminated from within that leads into the kitchen. This area is used by the staff to vape and can be clearly viewed by the customers, something that down grades the atmosphere and should be eliminated
