    Very old and needs renovation

Stayed in this old hotel on a Wendy Wu Tour Advertised as a 5 star International hotel really a 2 star. Old large hotel in need of renovation. This hotel has many tour groups that use it. Rooms a good size and bed soft and comfortable. Furniture scratched and chipped Refrigerator was not on Musty smell in room Loud noise from corridor and other rooms Nowhere to hang towels in bathroom and no clothesline in bathroom. Smoking seems to be tolerated in rooms and other areas in the hotel even with no smoking signs Safe works with fingerprint recognition and is not reliable WiFi not a secure connection with no password required Housekeeping did not clean our dirty tea cups The only positive was it was in the heart of the town. Would not recommend this hotel.

Good place but needs a bit of work

We were only one night at the New West Street Hotel and for that it worked fine. The room was nice and well appointed, but my wife did notice a few touches of mold from the perpetually damp air, and the view was of another building barely 7 or 8 feet away so nothing special there. Breakfast was interesting in that we had been told there were separate restaurants for Chinese and western breakfasts. We went into what was the Chinese buffet breakfast area and without even asking, a server called for two plated western breakfasts and shuffled us off into a separate room that had coffee and cereals. We did sneak back into the Chinese buffet room as there were a few things we wanted. The staff was nice, but very little English was spoken. The location is good, at the end of the Main Street of town and the end of the West Street pedestrian street and market, but it was a long walk from the Li River boat pier. If arriving that way, you should consider arranging transportation.

Would rate this hotel as average because it's a bit outdated

Our room was spacious and well equipped, large shower, clean bathroom. Good soft beds. Everything was working fine. We were sent to the western breakfast room, buffet style (while there is a larger chinese buffet in another room, we were not welcome there). Egg station, fresh fruit. Quality of bread is average. The whole hotel is a bit outdated...

all the facilities in this hotel but tired, needs updateing.

We only used this for one night after travelling from Guilin on a boat, and coach,The reception was friendly and a clean room with good breakfast. Would rate this as 3star maximum,as it was well dated, needing to be brought up to date.

An overrated but still a decent hotel in Yangshuo

Even this hotel is called New West Street International Hotel as its full name but English is not available at the front desk and nobody there speaks any English. Keep that in mind. The second challenge of this hotel is locating the rooms, the 600-level rooms are in 2 different locations and accessed by 2 different elevators. More interestingly, the rooms are not in sequential order. It goes like 601, 603, 605, 607, 651, 653 etc. I had to walk around the whole 6/F to locate my room. The room is decent in both the size and amenities which I am not going into details. The bathroom in this hotel has 2 types: either shower or bathtub but not both. The rooms with tubs are equipped with a glass to separate the bathroom and the room like most of the motels in Korea do. The TVs in the rooms are not HDTV and they are really pixelated and not a pleasure to watch. Since the room has a direct view into the bathroom and who wants to watch the TV, right? The toe operated stopper of the bathtub was broken, water could not be released. I had to call the housekeeper to release the water by hand. When I asked her if I could switch to another room, the housekeeper told me most of the toe operated stoppers in that hotel were also broken. They do not seem to be in a hurry to fix this problem. The cafeteria/restaurant is on the 2/F and it is basically catered towards Chinese ethnic food. The breakfast carries most of the popular items for Chinese customers and very limited items for westerners taste. They do not have fresh coffee, and instant coffee is only available on one coffee machine. The food is decent, but customers are sometimes chaotic. The hotel is located very close to the pedestrian street where one can spend the evening there to know more about this city. There are plenty of restaurants close to this hotel and one immediately right next to the hotel. The city is safe, and I do not have to look out for the pickpockets. The hotel location does not have a view of any kind. The front of the hotel is facing a busy street, but the back of the hotel is facing some worn-out residence buildings.
