Lovely place to stay in onsen townWe spent 3 nights at the hotel in a Japanese style superior room with sea view. It was lovely. Huge room with a private onsen bath that looks out over the sea. We didnt book the meals package as there are so many restaurants in Beppu and we prefer variety. The location of the hotel is ideal - only 10 or so mins walk from the Beppu train station. Service was excellent. All staff were very friendly and welcoming. Upon arrival the staff tool took our bags and escorted us to the room - fully explaining the hotels amenities. Every staff member we met spoke excellent English. A great place to stay. Expensive but thats not unusual in onsen towns. We definitely recommend this one.

Rude staff, old facilities, absolute rip off!We booked at least 6 months in advance and advised in the booking that we had a 5 year old child. We had booked the superior japanese/western room (401) as there were 2 western beds and 2 futon in the room. However upon arrival we were informed that this room only had two western single beds. When asked about the 2 futon beds we were told that the room had a max of 4 beds but if we wanted an extra bed (a third bed), we would have to pay an extra ¥3300 for someone to come and lay the extra bed - a futon. All of the futon bedding is available already in the room and if you use the bedding, you will be charged!! We were extremely disappointed as the hotel already knew we had a 5 year old and didnt provide the extra bedding charge at the time or after booking. When we addressed this with the hotel they took no responsibility and advised us to speak with the booking agent even though the hotel gave the information about the room to the booking agent in the first place. The facilities in the room are old and the fridge was banged about, bathroom sink and outdoor bath had debris in, small piece of carpet near the window area was stained, tatami was not vacuumed well, windowsill had not been wiped properly for a while. The only redeeming feature was the view but for AUD $430 a night (taking advantage of the rugby World Cup game in Oita), this hotel was twice as expensive as Tokyo! I have been to Beppu before and will come again but I would stear clear of this place!

Seaview room with sunriseOur room was so close to the water, with views from the seating as well as the bath. Good size room with tatami mats - but we also had western style beds for comfort. Morning sunrise views were priceless. An easy walk to the station. Hotel staff service was outstanding!

Best of both worlds and beautiful views from onsen bath! This hotel has the best of both worlds - a ryokan but with Western beds. Since it was our first nights after arriving, we opted to just use the Western beds, but it was great to have the ryokan room there to see the traditional style. The staff were all extremely kind, especially in the dining room, where after the first day I had bumped my knee on the low table, the staff had remembered and put us to sit straight away at a higher table. Breakfast was a delight, as a Japanese style with lots of little things to eat, but the staff would then also bring fresh green tea, rice, and miso soup. On the second day we were also given bacon and egg. The outdoor onsen has beautiful views of Beppu bay, and is such a great, calming way to start the day. Staying here was a beautiful way to start our 3 weeks in Japan.
