Most beautiful ryokan we ever stayed and number 1 best serviceWe stayed here for 2 nights. The first room I chose is the basic room with no view but surprisingly it is still very comfortable with western beds and nice western kaiseki meals at their western style restaurant. Although we chose the cheap room, the food and service were not compromised at all. Staff were very attentive and we were treated nicely same as expensive room guests. I arrived early at 2+pm and was promptly guided to my room although check-in time is 3pm. The elderly lady even suggested that I book their private bath (1 use per day) and to go to the autumn lights up event at a nearby temple. Staff is not fluent in English so for those who do not know Japanese, you need a little patience in explaining yourself. This is normal as most people in Tohoku area do not know English. We used the private onsen which offers breathtaking view of the Matsushima islands. Water is very clean and temperature is just nice although it is open air and cold. We also used the outdoor foot bath beside their lounge after dinner. It is very relaxing after a nice dinner at the western restaurant. Also, there are 1 welcome cocktail drink each day. The 2nd night, we stayed at their high end Sekkoku room which has a private bath area and awesome breathtaking sea view. This time we had kaiseki dinner in the room which has the best beef I ever eaten. The dinner is the best I had in Tohoku. Once again, service is immaculate. This round we sleep in Japanese tatami room and it is just as comfortable. Inroom temperature and heating is just right, not too cold nor too hot. The toiletries here is higher end and it ya good Ion hairdryer. It has 2 bath area so 2 persons can shower at their own space. The room private bath offers us more opportunities to dip in it and at the same time savour in the beautiful Matsushima Bay scenery and fresh air. Also want to thank them for arranging the tickets and providing free shuttle bus tro and fro to the Entsuuin temple whereby I had the best Autumn lights up night. The stay here is really the highlight of our 18 days Tohoku trip. Thank you Komatsukan Koufutei for this great experience! My conclusion is whether you have a big budget or a smaller one, you too can enjoy yr stay at this ryokan. For those who want to spend most days out can still save money by booking their simple rooms and still enjoy delicious food when they come back to the hotel to rest. I will be back again!

Japan at its highest Standard This is the Best Hotel I stayed in in JapanThis is a Japaneses hotel Do not come here for Western Style you get in thousands of cities . So this was the highlight of my trip I stayed in some of the worse and the Best hotels but I wanted something extra Japan and I got it the staff were highest standard and cater for mainly Japanese so forgive them a little if you want every western and perfect English then try the rest but if you want the most perfect location and a hotel with difference the perfection of Japan this is it I wanted to stay longer they were booked up . the room we had had view to die for overlooking island bridge lite up . The hotel was perfection in every way and decor is Japanese low tables and chairs no beds they make them up as you go out for dinner Futons comfy and typical Japanese , As presume be English speaking reads this not Native local I trying to explain what to expect . My feelings and my wife was it was the most memorable part of my trip I loved it my son is traditional English not so much ,but we wanted this experience and we received warm welcome and loved this hotel if I could come back I would in a flash I have stayed in some best hotels in the world and this was my most memorable . I would like thank the staff for the quality of there service, Breakfast is traditional if you rise early and love Japanese then your in for quality I rise poorly and want coffee and pastry so I really am sorry I missed it but it looked amazing . Its was the best part of three week trip and I rate it higher than anything on my trip . As I said if you want bland Western style hotel please forget it and then stop giving stupid revue for hotel you shouldn't have stayed in . Its a short walk along the coast path into town if you like walking and we found another gem at the railway station restaurant called Toto Italian style Fantastic . Try the boat trip round the islands and have walk over to Island over the bridge small charge , you do not need taxi into town unless your old or lazy its lovely walk along the path .if your travelling from station get taxi its not expensive but with Bags probably too far , If your going out in evening or day its 7 min walk not long walk to town for us as 55 years so if your lazy get taxi but its not far walking . And for this view its worth the walk location is superb next to fishing harbour overlooking the island with flood light bridge . I am lucky I have stayed in some of the best hotels world wide and this ranks high the Ritz and the Conrad's will be forgotten This will not . So if you want experience Japan this is it if you want bland world wide go else were don't moan ,

Well Worth 6-StarLocation: At water edge overlooking Matsushima Bay, perfect view from room window behind old pine trees, including private open-air hotspring bath; Meals: Unbelievable fine dining 9-course dinner changing daily by "Master Chef" + breakfast with 15+ little items ~ finest with attention to all small details; Service: Most attentive & ultra polite despite slight language problem (even 1st-class hotels' staff's English proficiency is so-so in Japan). Price: Unbelievable "readonable" price for sea-view room plus full board). DefinUtley plan coming back if not sooner

BreathtakingBeautiful hotel/ryokan over looking the bay with amazing facilities and fantastic customer service. We had stayed here for 2 nights at the end of our trip to fully relax and enjoy the best that Japan has to offer. We had selected the hotel/ryokan to treat ourselves and we were amazes beyond our expectations. The price wasn't cheap however the facilities, service and quality was definitely more than we bargained for. The rooms firstly were large and comfortable with simple yet elegant decorations. Homemade snacks and two different types of tea are provided on a daily basis and our views of the bay were simply breathtaking. Needless to say, we spent a good amount of time taking photos. The ryokan itself was rather large and what I would consider as a hotel with Japanese style rooms. However having said that, we were able to make use of the private outdoor onsen, overlooking the bay once a day. This was an amazing experience. There are also two different public onsens to use at your leisure however we didnt use these. We went with a half board package and boy were we surprised by the quality and quantity of food provided. Breakfast was a great spread with freshly cooked bread and an assortment of Japanese dishes. Dinner wise, it was a full 7 course meal that included local specialities cooked to perfection. Overall, this is definitely a great place to surpluge and experience true Japanese hospitality.
