no invitationsdespites our reservation of their best room, the hotel refused to issue an invitation for us to get our visa. We asked explanation on this but received a rather rude message that i copy paste here "you can cancel you booking. Unfortunately we don't make invitations.". So we had to cancel and stay somewhere else. This is a rather sorry story.

Excellent hotel with reasonable room rateVisited Kaliningrad, Russia for three days. This is a wonderful hotel. In a real 17 century castle. Room was big and the room rate was very reasonable. Had free shuttle service from the airport. Receptionist could speak fluent English. And assisted us to book a taxi for one full day tour. Recommended.

Nice hotel but...If youve ever wanted to stay in a castle this is the place for you. Located near the airport its about 15 mins to the airport itself and 15 mins to downtown Kaliningrad. The hotel and the rooms are very charming, we booked the honeymoon suite and loved to pretend we were royalty for 2 nights. English is all based on luck depending which staff is working but generally speaking they are all very pleasant. The only negative point and I would say for us it was a major one is the tap water smells of iron or copper very badly, from the showers to brushing your teeth it was absolutely horrible, this needs to be addressed. Otherwise the prices are reasonable and the rooms are very cool.

A unique experienceSpent two nights here during the World Cup. The hotel was surprisingly quiet despite the town being full of English and Belgian fans. The hotel is about a 20 minute drive both from the airport and from the centre of town. Our room was on the small side, but it was comfortable and well appointed. The language barrier was an obstacle with all staff members, but some were noticeably friendlier than others. The restaurant and on-site brewery were highlights; we ate and drank very well. The gruesome torture museum on the second floor is worth a visit. The jousting area was very impressive, though sadly not in use during our stay. Definitely worth a stay if you're visiting Kaliningrad.

Enjoyable thematic experience and stay in this hotelThe property is built in the style of a small Prussian castle. It has a in-house brewery restaurant , pool +spa and wellness facilities and even a jousting ground. There is also a small musuem of torture and you can enjoy other activities such as archery, horse riding at additional costs. They have jousting shows on wednesdays around dinner time. - The pool/jacuzzi are free for use before 10am and is really enjoyable (although the pool is not meant for laps but more for lounging around). They have a beer spa, where you literally soak in a bathtub filled with beer and have endless beer from a tap! Beer spa, massage and use of steam rooms/sauna/banya are chargeable, as are the pool/jacuzzi (after 10am). - rooms are decorated in antique and medieval style but there are modern amenities such as air-con, wifi, fridge and proper toilet and shower facilities. The water coming out from the tap and shower had a slight metallic smell or taste. It didn't really bother me but some people may not be happy with it. -Close to the airport (15-20 mins drive) Free return transfers to the airport is provided but there was simply not enough room for our large group of 9 persons (and luggage) to be comfortably accommodated in their minivan. There is nothing around the hotel so you would need to get a taxi into the city centre or to visit the Curonian Spit National Park -Reception staff speak some English and are helpful and courteous - the food at the restaurant and the breakfast buffet is pretty decent for such a theme hotel. There is a massive ala-carte selection for lunch/dinner and what our group sampled was of good quality In all, we were happy with our stay and would recommend this hotel if you do not need to stay in Kaliningrad city centre.
