  A Gem in the Mountain

  A gem in the mountain, run by a young couple, Atashi & Miyuki. Very friendly, great hospitality, speak a little English and I do not understand Japanese either but we all have Goggle Translate. Ume serving at meal times can converse a little in English and very cheerful too. Location Shirabu Onsen, 30 min from Yonezawa station. Free shuttle service provided by Atashi, pick-up 2.30pm, return 10.00am. Rooms Very clean with river, mountain scenery. All 17 rooms are Japanese style. 10 smaller rooms with no toilets inside, use communal toilets, are cheaper but with same views and same breakfast dinner plans. Both 24 hour Hot springs with scenery. An indoor long Olympic pool with bathing facilities and an outdoor pool downstairs. Meals Delicious multiple courses tradition Japanese kaiseki dinner of sashimi, dishes of local vegetables, fish, soup, rice. I had popular Yonezawa beef on my 1st night and Shabu Shabu Yonezawa beef on my 2nd night. Japanese breakfast of salad, fish, onsen egg, vegetables, soup, ...a lot to eat too. Both dinner and breakfast menu changes daily but always have a small pot of specialty cooking on the little burner. Nearby attractions about 20 min walking distance. I walked past the road closed in winter to Shirabu Waterfall. I turned left and walked on to the gondola station and took the ride up to Tengendai Kogen ski resort where I can see the magnificent Yamagata mountains. I received a Thank you gift from Atashi upon check out. I enjoyed my 2 night stay very much. It was very relaxing and peaceful in the mountains.
