    A most tranquil Christmas

We have just returned from spending 4 exceptional, peaceful days over Christmas and a great experience it was. We have visited on half a dozen previous occasions and it remains our favourite in the area. The grounds are lovely, the rooms very charming , comfortable, warm and all vary, and despite our room, on this occasion, being on the second floor of the Chateau (we are in our 70s) it was well worth the climb for the views. The towelling robes and slippers are a nice touch. Patricia kept our room clean even on Christmas Day. There is good WIFI. The food was excellent at all times, and the wine reasonably priced. (I would propose guests at nearby Najetis Hotel Tilques eat here as their food recently was inedible and the restaurant staff worse). We took advantage of the half board deal and were not disappointed. The staff in the restaurant were remarkable, quick, efficient but friendly at all times, and I must mention both Valerie (an angel with a smile) and Aurelie, both suffering our French. Clement at the reception desk was very attentive and such fun, an asset to the hotel. The one (and only) negative, mentioned many times previously, is that it would be a benefit to have a hospitality tray in the room and we notice than many French establishments are now adopting this.

    Awful

Do not stay here - its an absolute dump. I booked a lux double and paid £146 for one night. We were given a refund by the hotel of 32 Room 202. The furniture, walls and other fittings are marked and filthy. The bathroom - which is tiny with a separate toilet - does look as if it has been recently retiled but to be fair thats the only good thing I can say. We asked for an alternative room and were offered room 206. We reluctantly accepted. Even though it was small and still grubby it was better than the first room. It did have a shower over the bath however which was completely unusable due to the absence of any kind of screen or curtain. After a long journey through France we were looking forward to a relaxing evening with good food in the restaurant but we were told it was closed due to their coronavirus rules and we should have been aware of that. We werent. The receptionist informed us that the nearest place to go for food was Boulogne-Sur-Mer, approximately 15 minutes drive away. Also due to their coronavirus rules we were asked to choose what we wanted for breakfast the next morning immediately on arrival. During the previous week we have stayed at 6 other establishments in France and have not been required to do this. When we actually had breakfast it was ok but we didnt get the juice we had ordered. By this point I just wanted to leave. I understand that this hotel has only just reopened following the lockdown in France. From my recent experience most hotels have used this time to carry out any minor repairs and paintwork and given the interiors a good clean. Not in this case. Maybe it should have stayed closed. Permanently.

Very good stopover in character chateau about half an hour from Eurotunnel

We stayed for one night on our way back to the UK from the south of France. I understand the hotel had been closed due to covid restrictions, and reopened in July. The person at reception was very polite and meticulous with hygiene measures, spraying/wiping pens, cards etc., staff wore masks and a one-way system in and out was in operation. We have stayed here a couple of times before, I thought the standard room we had in the chateau was nice but there were signs of wear. Tea/coffee-making facilities would have been appreciated. Dinner in the restaurant (L'Orangerie) was excellent, delicious food, and included amuse-bouche. The tables were well spaced and there were only very few people (all French) dining there. A pleasant change from the last couple of times when it was full of loud Brits and we couldn't get a table actually in the Orangery/conservatory!
